Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Good one @Daver6 .
My cardiologist wants me to do the red wine so who am I to argue.
Almost no beer these days and I avoid those cough new craft beers that I consider to be close to undrinkable.
Mrscove has ordered 2 sets of the Coravin Pivot from Kitchen Warehouse this morning. Will mean I can enjoy less more often.
Mr cardio says a glass of red is same has same calories a glass of Coke and says I should cut back. I think there is only so much these fellas know so I ignore this advice.

Plenty of entire forums barely get used as it is.

Back on topic - I have heaps of Dan Murphy’s gift cards burning a whole in my pocket but jeez it’s hard to fine wine of the excellent value we’d seen a while back. They’ve still got good beer specials etc but really seem to have limited wine stock of better pricing than other places now
Hares chase is highly recommended from those who have tried. 6 bottles for $99

I'm not sure a small discussion warrants a whole new thread.

Plenty of threads don't get used as it is.

Probably could start a thread called Wine g
Gadgets or something?

Might be enough to keep the discussion ticking, but there's actually not even a General Wine Talk thread, which could be an option.

I quite liked hearing a tiny side chat about this one here, and would have missed out had it gone off to the never used wine paraphernalia forum... so don't hold back on my account from the odd related topic!

Mmv it seems ; I am sick of mainstream beers and have been enjoying some of the boutique offerings

Could not agree more - come to Cruiser’s Casa and you can quaff all the Crownies, VBs, Carlsberg, MGD you want - or down quality Champs and Reds til it runs out your ears - but those yuppie trendy craft beers nah best you don’t bother coming.

Well for a start it’s a bit simplistic to put all reds into the same basket. A few years ago I did some research on how much sugar is in various things, including wine. Yes, some reds are high in sugar but there’s actually huge variation from about 1g of sugar per glass to about 15g (coke at the high end of this, about 10.5g). The dry red wines most drunk in Australia of Shiraz, Cabernet and Pinot Noir are at the low end.

Well @Cruiser Elite we older beer drinkers are amazed at the supposed popularity of craft beers.
Haven’t been in Melbourne for quite some time but my eldest son and his partner returned from there and tested Covid positive at Perth Airport this past week. At day four they started feeling better.
He hasn’t had any alcohol for 6 months so maybe that made him vulnerable.
The highest restaurant corkage was at a Sydney restaurant where we took a Hill Of Grace for a birthday celebration. That was $75.
A Cyril ,a 389 , a Diana or a MossWood and i am quite happy.

I know it's tough times for restaurants, and we should be kind but $75 really objectionable corkage (unless, I guess, your group was 15 or so). I suppose as it's no more than a fine for BYO all dressed up as a service charge, it wouldn't have any deterrent effect on Henschke drinkers unless it was truly hefty. But that really does seem OTT. Maybe I'm just showing my age and stinginess!

Oh cough, sorry all! Just realised this rant isn't about wine deals and I should be hunting the 'Moaning About Corkage and a Whole Lot of Other Old White Male First World Problems' forum... can someone pls send me the link?
