Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Yep, that's more like it. I think I saw that and still decided no. I already have a bit but am cellaring so haven't tasted and no idea how much I want to assemble any kind of vertical profile. I suppose I should dive in and try it... I hear some rate it.

I love the blend but didn’t find HM to be anything special.
Got 6pack for $20 p/b first time it was on Langton’s, ended up giving most of them to friends (the bottle looks nice).

more mystery deals!!
What would this be? Wax seal?

If I had time I'd drive 5 minutes up the road and try it. Assuming tasting is available, which I doubt.

If you like Aged Wine and Great Price:

Orlando Lawson's Padthaway Shiraz 2004 at $30/bottle

That's a great price. Wonder how it stacks up after 18 years. I reckon it would be past its peak by now?

A warning re Grays online.
I've heard too many bad things about Grays since day dot to trust them. Should be easy to do a reversal/chargeback on your credit card if they don't come to the party (it's a requirement to try and contact them first). While annoying, you've usually got up to 3 months to claim on Visa/MC and 6 months Amex

Seems to be the last year that it was under cork

If you do I'd be happy to split a case with you if you don't want the full 12

Anybody in Brisbane would like to share a case of the 2004 Orlando Lawson Shiraz? Or point me to the share case forum?

A warning re Grays online.

I’ve made over 50 purchases, all via auction. The only issue I’ve ever had was slow delivery.

Last week I won an auction and got the email telling me that my credit card would be automatically debited. This is the same process as for every other purchase I’ve made.

However turns out Grays never debited my credit card and 6 days later they sent me an SMS telling me that the invoice was unpaid and that they were adding a $30 ‘late fee’ as I didn’t pay on time (original invoice price was for $60). I tried to call them. No answer. Couldn’t find an email address so I sent them a message on Facebook. No reply. They then debited my credit card without my permission for the full invoice plus the additional $30 fee. Seems a great way to scam people out of an extra $30!

All of this is contrary to their terms:

'What happens if payment is not received?

Our accounts team will contact you via email and request payment be made as soon as possible. If payment is not received, the sale may be cancelled, and you may be charged a cancellation fee representing 20% of the invoice amount being charged.'

They have subsequently responded via Facebook and claim they are ‘looking into it’.

But given they never contacted me at all before the 6 days to tell me there may be a problem with my invoice not being paid and then automatically adding $30 to the invoice and my credit card now ‘magically’ works for them, I say be very alert to any transaction you have with Grays.

UPDATE: Message from Grays this morning telling me they have escalated the matter and have requested that the $30 be refunded. Even if/when this occurs the experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. Galling for any business to think that they can act this way by default.
UPDATE 2: I received the following generic message from Grays, seems that I wasn't the only person impacted:

"Dear Customer,

Congratulations on your winning bid.

It has come to our attention, that due to a system error, buyers were incorrectly charged a late payment fee for items won from sale xx_XX. We are currently organising for this fee to be refunded to all the affected buyers, which will be processed back to the payment method used on the invoice and should be back in your accounts within 2-3 business days.

We would like to offer our sincerest apologies for the error and thank you for your understanding.

Kind Regards,
Grays Customer Service Team"
