Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Lol, Langtons were today selling magnums of Clarendon Brookman 2009 - 2012 syrah ($75), c/s ($75) and merlot ($45). I respond to broker email within 2 minutes of receipt and follow with call, leaving voicemail msg to reiterate order for three of the 2012 syrah.

Result - sorry you missed out. Reminded of a VM sale bait drop... thought Langtons were better and wondering if my broker stuffed it.

Received this from Wild Duck Creek Winery

2014 Springflat Shiraz 750mL - $245.00 per 3 pack inc delivery.

Only 180 x 3 packs total available until sold out.

My Tasting Note from today....

Very intense red/purple in colour. The 2014 Springflat is everything great 10 year old Springflat should be. Still loads of primary fruit on the nose. Blackberry, blackcurrant, mint chocolate and a little menthol lifting out of the glass. This is a very dense wine, with big structure even still after 10 years. Flavours of red cherry, blueberry pie, strawberry compote and blackcurrant leaf. Completely drinkable now, however this wine still has years left to have some fun with in the cellar. Drink now and up to 2030.

Yep, broker tells me she may have taken 10 mins more than other brokers to get the email out, and the 100 magnums of the 2012 went in minutes, possibly to bulk orders. Seems a not very ok system!

Anyone got a tip for jd #730? Flagship Margaret River chard.
I am trying to crack it. It is actually not Marg, it is Great Southern.. where Kalgan River Chardy is from

It has a nauseating AI style 95 point Sam Kim review so anyone with access to Wine Orbit should be able to crack it easily!

Any francophiles that would know/recommend this one? An Unbelievable $150 a doz back vintage mystery Bordeaux!
did you read the Notes? :)
From one of the stars of St-Emilion comes this family project in one of the great bordeaux years, 2015. Clos Leon is all about expression of terroir, from fruit surrounding St-Emilion and encapulating the essence of good drinkable Merlot. Made by one of the biggest names in bordeaux, who's own 2015 wine was scored a magical 95-97 points from Neil Martin, this is a wine designed to yield immediate enjoyment.
Aged in one and two year french oak for 12 months, and sealed under screwcap. 13.5% alc.

it's 2016 Petit Leon Bordeaux Rouge - GW91

PS - GW 91 point review is here
"It’s fresh and it’s smooth, but not too smooth. Plum and cherry, some tobacco and earth, a touch of nougat and cedar oak. Medium-bodied, supple and savoury, with a ripe fruit, subtle mint perfume, and an earthy tobacco finish of solid length. What's so appealing is that it doesn't try too hard. It drinks beautifully right about now"

Does anyone here have any thoughts on Hardys Eileen Hardy Shiraz 2017 ? It looks to be the latests in winestars mystery offerings coming in at 49.99.
If anyone here has had any experiences with the Eileen I'd love to hear them, from what I'm gathering based on a few comments online, it appears to rather average when young, however I do note that the older Eileen's seem to rate a lot higher.
I'm trying to figure out if this is due to a change of winemaking in recent years, or simply that the wine is made to drink at age and opening it early yields somewhat average notes from drinkers.

Eileen Hardy Shiraz is made as a long-term cellaring wine. How people cope with that when younger depends on how they like wine and tolerance of overt oak and tannin.
This is now 7 years old, should be into it's drinking window.
Caveat is that 2017 was not a stellar vintage in McLaren Vale and I'd personally be wary despite the two positive reviews supplied.

BTW, advertised at Today Only.

Personally haven't had it, but my stepdad loved the 2016. I have found that although I have liked a lot of 2017 wines, my assessment is that overall they seem to be more 'drink now', rather than ones that would age for a long time. My stepdad bought 12 of the Eileen 2017, based on previous experience of the 2016.

This used to be a mighty label signifying the top of Hardy's lines. However, given the old stuff used to need 15 years plus to get to a state that reflected the label I feel that things were made simpler to allow drinkers to access the wine in under 10 years. Whilst Hardy's is not the only wine company to adjust to modern tastes and cellaring, it seems to me that their transition to younger style flagship wines has not been executed as successfully as others such as Wendouree.

Drunk in isolation if aged at least 7 years Eileen is still a cracking drop at the special price, but across all vintages it is a shadow of what quality it used to represent.

Thanks, ordered 6 and share with friends.

I have had this, picked up on a similar offer a few months ago, along with the cab sav too I think. I enjoyed both but felt they both need more time to develop. Plenty of fruit and stuffing here for my palate, so I'll be resting them for a while longer before the next one.

Shopback have 18% Cashback ($20 Cap) at BWS today (excl. Champagne, Penfolds).

These Cashback deals have been a bit rare lately, and the BWS clearance pages have gotten a bit useless at showing what's available, so I've put together a bit of a roundup of clearance stock that might be worth looking at:

belated thanks, i had to grab these later when Cashrewards had 12%, because after the physical store closed, website wouldn't let me click&collect from it, even though i could via app - never encountered that before

For those in Canberra (and those who can get the website working) a couple of stores have Freycinet Pinot Noir for around $40 after cashback (Dickson and City).

A friend of mine today also had the same problem with the BWS website. The website just keeps getting worse and worse. I'm not sure what is going on at BWS - it is almost like they don't want to sell any wine.
