Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I picked up some of the 2016 Mesh Rieslings from the previous Carpe Diem, and they are drinking beautifully right now, and a steal at $25 in my opinion. Well worth a try if you're putting in an order
 
Henriot 2 pack champagne for $135 seems OK. But I cant find enough to make up a dozen order of other bottles.

Interesting, the most recent Sam Kim note for a Prosperitas wine (not this) list CW Wines as the producer. Dozen Deals have lots from the CW stable. I can't find a SK note for any 2022 Prosperitas Shiraz though, last one was 96 for the 2017 Barossa Shiraz.

Also code EOFY20 takes 20% off the price, $30 less.

Slightly off topic, I'm going to hunter valley next week. Cellar doors don't strike me as a place for bargains ? Am I wrong ? Are there certain wines there that rarely go on sale worth purchasing ? Vat 1 semillon? As an aside , any particular vineyards should be on the visit and support list? Thanks in advance.

I'm the same on Carpe Diem. Was expecting a bonanza with EOFY, but alas, I get to hold onto my hard earned and create some space in the cellar.

Cellar Door usually is RRP, and maybe access to some "exclusive" releases (which weren't good or volumous enough for wider release). So yeah, don't expect bargains.

Have had the it a number of times and it has always been reliable. I had cellar dollars at Xmas I wanted to spend and bought another 6 pack of it.

If they are open I would recommend Lakes Folly. They only make 2 wines. A Chardonnay and a Cabernet blend, which are both outstanding. But they are $$$. Mount pleasant is the same. Great wines but everything has gone north in price.

Briar Ridge make solid wines all round and if you like Chardonnay Leogate is reliable. Reasonably priced.

Personal recommendation would be Petersons - however to clarify - NOT Petersons House (champagne house i think its called?) and there is a Petersons cellar on Broke road however i would very highly recommend going to the Mount View Petersons cellar, its only an extra 7~ or so min drive however the area and cellar are worth it.

As the other guys are mentioning, not really anything on "sale" but more just limited releases/or lack of supply to send out to bottle shops for a big release, so you'd be paying the cellar door prices. It's more about being able to taste bottles and find out if there is anything you like/enjoy and realising "oh wow this is mentally good. i need a few bottles of this." because:

1) the vineyard probably doesn't sell it at dan murphy's because they don't make the quantity to be able to support that level of volume
2) they don't need to sell beyond the cellar door, they have regulars/customer bases and membership groups that enjoy/buy up their wines due previous visits or long time buyers.
3) even if you're paying the "extreme" cellar door price of 50 or 60 dollars for a bottle, you may taste a wine that you think performs far above that price range and would be happy to pay the now "cheap" price of 50 or 60 dollars for it.

Value is definitely in the eye of the beholder here =)

Agree with Petersons 100%! Quite a few wines are made with grapes from other regions too. Apart from Hunter, mostly Mudgee, a few SA reds too.

I would recommend visiting Thomas Allen Wines Apart from being one of the very few wineries that don't charge tasting fee, they are probably only winery that have a waiting list for membership. Booking essential. Very nice wines, particularly Hunter Chardonnay and Shiraz and their hosts are exceptional with knowledge and curtesy.

For a bit of a fun - I would visit Piggs Peake Very quirky wines with their Reds primarily sourced from Orange and McLaren Vale and not shy on alcohol. An absolute must to try is their "Wolfie" Zinfandel if available.

If you have time - drop in to Hope Estate to try their "Cracker" WA Cab Merlot!

Not a drastic deal but Waters Wine Co, who I rate as a pretty decent wine store are having their EOFY sale. Lots at just 10% but a few at 20% and 30% off. Selfishly I did take the 5 bottles of Mac Forbes Yarra Valley Chardonnay at $24.50 a bottle they had left before posting this haha.

the Battles Shiraz is one I've been keen to try and also comes down to that same price point after 30% off. Free shipping over $150.
