Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

July 2020 and my average price was $55.55 after available discounts for 2016 vintage.
I recall paying around $40 per bottle for the Jack Mann in six packs, but I have not brought a bottle for many years. Maybe we should be grateful - You'll be paying $240-$290 retail per bottle in Beijing at the moment!

I ordered some of these, no time slots available to collect on the same day...the next day I got an email saying thanks for your email we have cancelled the order as requested (which I didn't ask for), so I try to re-order and the promo has expired...the customer service person said to just place an order again and didn't see what the issue was..

Ha, same thing happened to me. No luck through customer service either.

VERY typical for the Coles group. They don't check stock until they pick the order, and they often sell stock they don't have (i.e. poor inventory). Can never trust an order with them. Never heard of a successful outcome with customer service. OzB full of examples.

The pro tip with Coles is to check the stock on the Liquorland site for the store adjacent to the supermarket from which you’re clicking and collecting. If not showing as in stock, there’s a very high chance it’ll be cancelled through Coles.

I actually placed the order when I was in the store, hoping it woould pop up straight away, but they only had collect slots the following day, and it appears they don't get released to the staff to pick until the timeslot starts. So they definitely had stock when I ordered.

Didn't feel like long ago we were getting $50-60 Jack Mann's. @Dr Ralph confirm?
before discounts/cashback:

I managed to pick up some 2020 Jack Mann in the middle of 2023 for $45 a bottle from Distinction Wines - it was a pricing error. Got it alongside some Old Block for $40 a bottle. Both were 3 packs.

Haven't tried Jack Mann yet - is it worth the hype/price?

Edit - do I win a prize? :p

You guys are so lucky to get the clearance price of Jack Mann at your BWS in your state. I think it worth it for what you pay for.

I reckon I should not post anything when people can get it much cheaper 5-10 years ago.

I reckon you started a nice reminisce of how good some bargains were compared to current pricing. Prizes for all who bought materially below current pricing.

Anyone have a contact in Sydney to build a wine cellar? Not the racking (I'll diy that part) but to design and build with the correct materials, insulation, cooling etc. Please PM me

Jack Mann is definitely worth it.. does need a little time though.. we generally go for the Gladstones price point. The latest Mann is around $160 now.

I think it's a fantastic wine with some age on it. Even at RRP it's worth it IMHO.

Did you try this one? Opened a bottle tonight and I'm really struggling with it. Very acidic and not enjoying it at all, maybe it's just not my style of Chardonnay.
Same here. Tonight is the second day, it doesn't improve. I guess it could be heat damage, or Winemaking Faults. I remember long times ago I tried their basic one, ($10-15 in DM), it is melon domain.

The similar situation happens in BWS many time, I don't buy in there often.

edit:
Answer from AI
Likely Winemaking Faults:
  • Incomplete or Blocked Malolactic Fermentation (MLF):This is a very common reason for excessive acidity in Chardonnay. MLF is a secondary fermentation where bacteria convert tart malic acid (think of the acid in green apples) into softer lactic acid (think of the acid in milk). If MLF didn't fully complete or was intentionally blocked by the winemaker, the wine will retain a higher level of malic acid, leading to a sharper, more pronounced acidity. This could also explain the lack of some of the rounder, creamier notes often associated with Chardonnay that has undergone MLF, potentially making the primary fruit seem less prominent.
  • Early Harvesting:
  • Yeast Strain: Certain yeast strains used during fermentation can produce higher levels of acidity as a byproduct.
  • High Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Levels:
Possible Inappropriate Storage (Less Likely as the Primary Cause, but Can Exacerbate Issues):
Extreme Temperatures or Fluctuations:
