Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I'm going to take the plunge on this years' TWE/Vintec big fridge offer, though I'm not intimately familiar with TWE wines other than the odd Bin 389 and the Grange by name. I'd be most obliged if anyone comes across any decent TWE deals from DM in the next couple of months to share them on here.

Perhaps if you let us know what other wines/styles you like, we can make some recommendations based on that? :)

Just based off last year, the other retailers (Epiqure, Langtons etc.) came up with tailored bundles to meet the spending threshholds. I would hold your fire for the time being to see what does come up.

Good point!
I prefer reds over whites, and enjoy both full body and lighter styles, and appreciate smoothness. I like fruit flavours over earthiness or minerality. I'm happy to buy drink-nows or put-aways.

I've been enjoying VinoMofo offers of Barossan shiraz and cab like Fox Gordon and Lou Miranda. I'm curious but haven't tried varieties like Grenache and Zinfandel and their blends.

Well, I think you'll enjoy most Penfolds reds. Penfolds house style is pretty unique. They love a good lashing of American oak. If you prefer something a little more restrained, St Henri is your go to which has neutral oak. There were some offers with pretty sharp pricing on the 2012 St Henri going around recently. Not sure if this is still available.

Perhaps an approach to take would be to go purchase a few single bottles and try them all and then make a longer term decision based on that?

For me, Bin 28 is usually a decent wine. Bin 389, St Henri and RWT are others I've purchased in the past. I've never "got" Bin 128. Bin 407 is a total waste of money IMHO. Bin 707 in the past has been a great wine, but not worth the current asking price. I did try the current release Magill Estate Shiraz and thought it was the best in a long time.

Right now I'm sipping on a 2010 Bin 8 and again, not worth the asking price.

As for their whites, Im a huge fan of the Reserve Bin Chardonnay.

Now that I've written all this, I realised you original question asked about TWE wines in general, not just Penfolds. Can you purchase any TWE wines for this offer or are their restrictions?

Penfolds, devils lair, coldstream and St Huberts I believe.

If I do go ahead with this offer I think it'll be a mix of coldstream Chardonnay and pinot, and a couple of 389s and St Henri.

2006 Classified Cellar Six-Pack $450 ($75/bt) @ Langton's

• Grant Burge Meshach 2006
• Cullen Diana Madeline 2006
• Balnaves The Tally Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
• d'Arenberg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2006

even better if you have a $50/$100 Vintec voucher/code :)

I missed the $300 2013 Australian Pinot Noir Compilation 6pk, being two each of By Farr Farrside, Dawson & James, Tapanappa Foggy Hill Vineyard :(

You could try calling Langton's about the pinot mix. They offered it to me despite being out of stock on their site. :|

DMs, Langtons, Epiqure, Cellarmasters, Vintage Cellars, Costco (though no Costco in WA) and a bunch of smaller outlets.

Pity they don't include Wynns.

From Coldstream, I think their entry level Pinot is pretty good if you can get it on special. Its nothing fancy, but a great early drinking Pinot.

Yes a good GSM for $17.50 :)

Spinifex Indigene is great but also about $55/bt - a fairer alternative is perhaps Spinifex Esprit at ~$30/bt :)

Other Barossa GSMs for less than $20-$30/bt worth trying are Teusner Joshua and Avatar (Joshua = unoaked, Avatar = oaked, buy at 1st Choice using $10 off $50+ voucher on OzBargain), Head Wines Head Red, Tim Smith, Schwarz, maybe John Duval Plexus

Like the Kennedy GSM, Different Drop also has the 95pt Sons of Eden Freya Riesling 2015 for $19 until this Sunday, as well as the 97pt Head Wines The Brunette Shiraz 2013 for $49

Different Drop have 10% off all Head Wines with GETAHEAD until next Sunday (with a possible extra 10% off if it's your 1st order - call/email them), making 2015 Head Red Shiraz or GSM $22.50 and 2013 The Brunette Shiraz $47.70, as well as 2014 The Contrarian Shiraz $29.70 (free delivery for $150+ orders)

Tahbilk 2015 Marsanne is at $10 until tomorrow at Dan's.
The Marsannes are incredible value as we all know, and their aging potential is almost insurmountable. I recently had the 2015 and found it be to incredibly fruity, with mainly stonefruit predominant flavours. It's been a while since I have any any older ones, but I couldn't remember them being like this. I was a little surprised with it as I was expecting it to be drier. But the value is always there especially at Dannys on special.
