I to may have got onto some of that 2004 La Primera from the same outfit in July and had another bot in September. If you don't like this wine WandD , I am personally coming down there with santa and one of his helpers and we're gonna whip yo backside. My two botts were soup purb indeed. Give the game away if you come up with a poor critique. Up to you know boyo.
I DON"T like it BF, I absolutely LOVE it!! Might have to do a little write-up on it soon....

Bought 2 single malts for $160 total at First Choice to take advantage of the amex 150/30. Said to assistant, I had a $10 voucher to print online but forgot it. No problems I'll take that off. So total spend $150 and another $30 off. Yes I know this is the DM wine thread, but they also have quaffers at good price atm. eg: I think Geisen was $10 btl.

Forgive me for my pedantry Prozac but you can post about any damned deal you like, it says so in the thread title :) Giesen sounds v. cheap at that price, Mrs W&D would knock me over in the rush to get to that one....

Totally agree three cheers Wine Direct SA to VIC 5 days from order to delivery. However Three big cheers to Auspost. Also three cheers to Howard Park WA five days ordered and delivered via Auspost to Vic as well. Cheers

Couldn't agree more Rug, I just did an on-line survey (something I try to avoid normally) that Oz Post requested to rate my experience and gave them a very big thumbs up, here's the link for anyone who wants to rate them... https://survey.auspost.com.au/cgi-bin/qwebcorporate.dll?idx=HG4QAW&rk=zBDEF34EE

Got the Curtis Cavaliere x2 in my pack and am very keen to give it a whirl, I'm thinking of rocking up on Xmas day with it (hoping it is every bit as big as it promises to be). I'd be fascinated to hear you comments on the wines in the 'No one will order' pack especially more esoteric ones like the Tannat, I got two of the Lino Rambler in my pack too, have you given that a whirl before...? cheers, W&D

I too got that pack with the H&Y Tannat in it. Very interesting! Smelt a bit like hospital grade disinfectant (probably the big hit of eucalypt). RE the Curtis, make sure you decant it for an hour or so, needs time to settle down. I drank one of my 2010 Curtis the other day. My god does it cellar well!

Not sure if the Tannat sounds overly attractive WN!! Was it drinkable and moreish (eventually) or did it continue with the notes of Domestos?? I'm guessing you mean the Cavaliere, I'll certainly take that on board re the decanting/breathing....thanks!

Apologies, I should have elaborated a bit further! The palate is delightful! It has a bit of spice and powerful fruit with chalky tannin. I'm a fan. The Eucalypt blows off with about half an hour decanting

Don't forget to ask them for $10 off for the coupon. ;)
You also receive another coupon on your receipt for another $10 off your next $80 spend in store.

Thanks for the heads-up, they don't have a bricks and mortar presence in Tas at the moment but the online store has the Giessen for $10 so could order that way! (not sure about the $10 voucher, I haven't got any amex cards)

I think I've posted a few reviews of Madiran AOC Tannat in the "nice wines thread" - Tannat is usually a grape that needs many years to soften the big tannins. It's a big wine, a bit like Cabernet, but generally not one for drinking early. We had a 2000 Ch. Montus at our November weekend meetup (the one with the 1989 Wendouree Cabernet). It was good drinking then.

The $10 is a First Choice offer, not amex. Unfortunately for you it is instore only. It's not much, but the little fish are sweet.

Picked up a case of Saltram Mamre Brook 2012 from CM with a $50 off $120 spend voucher, wish card and cash rewards. Free delivery to BWS and I thought it was a pretty good buy. Only problem is I'd say it's been completely cooked in the delivery truck over the past week, so maybe not such a sharp purchase after all...

That's a pity mate, Langton's often delay delivery until cooler periods of time but it might be too much of a burden for other retailers. Not to mention many people just want their wine delivered ASAP.

If you have a wine fridge / cellar maybe let them sit for a month or so, you might find they recover. For some unknown reason bottles that have been transported sometimes need a bit of time to return to their best drinking.

Cheers Tielec, they're going into the cellar for a few years so fingers crossed. Good to know about wines coming good!

Whilst 'bottle shock' is an oft debated thing (some people swear by it, and others insist that there's no effect excepting perhaps sparking wine that's been shaken), I think I'm on reasonably safe ground saying that heat affected wine is never going to 'come good' I'd test a bottle, before committing the rest to storage.

What are the characteristics that make you think that?

NexDay, the couriers owned by Woolworths and used by Cellarmasters and Wine Market (and VinoMofo, but not usually Langtons) claim to use climate control in transit, at least between depots. My local NexDay guy has a van with insulation, but I don't think any special aircon.

Red wine is pretty robust, it has to get pretty hot to cause damage. But once it is damaged it will never recover.

Especially when they swim in schools ;)

Must admit that all that you've said AC echoes the same thoughts I had, apart from anything else wouldn't CM cover the return of this wine when the consumer can contend it was either faulty or "not to my liking"? In that case try two!!

Last summer I bought a case from DM, where the bottles weren't hot on delivery but they felt warm enough like they'd been sitting in someone's boot for a few hours. Just one of the risks of ordering delivered wines in summer

Yes no problems with CM. I returned 2 cases of faulty wine earlier in the year due to a capping problem which led to some bottles being oxidised. I was told you can return a faulty wine anytime during the recommended cellaring period. The return period is one month for a wine you don't like.

I sometimes think that bottle travel shock is the result of being keen to try a new wine (read bargain) and opening it when still at
delivery temp ie over 17C ' ish.

(Agree re extreme heat for multiple days would cause all sorts of chemical reaction and severely impact wine quality.)
