Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Just had a quick scan of the Wine Direct current offerings.

I don't have the Altitude Black card, so can't access the $50 credit, but the only two wines that did jump out at me was the Turkey Flat Shiraz 14 (Halliday 97) and the:

Heirloom Vineyards Eden Valley Riesling 2013 (Halliday 95 : 70 yr vines : "The result is textural and almond mealy with bright Riesling fruit and exceptional length"): https://www.winedirect.com.au/heirloom-vineyards-eden-valley-riesling

4 bottles would tip the $100 and $25 off with the JUSTBECAUSE code would bring it down to $18.75 a bottle plus delivery, which seems a good price if you are in the market for a decent Riesling with a little bit of age on it.

The Turkey Flat ($48) is not well enough priced to buy even with the discount, but was a wine I would be interested in.

What did others see that they jumped on / are looking at?

On the subject of Cabernet (that time of year innit) Fuddling Cup 2008 Cab from Geographe, back on Cracka for $14.99 a bottle.

This is a lovely wine IMHO - already aged and drinking very well. A bargain at a quaffer price. Opened my last bottle of the last batch earlier and has convinced me to get another 12. All this young Wynns black label and Xanadu stuff really needs to be laid down for a bit where as this is ready to go.

Hi All,
Long time lurker, first time poster. Liquorland currently have buy 3 bottles of Peter Lehmann and receive a free magnum of Peter Lehmann Futures shiraz. This works out quite well if you are wanting to stock up on a few cheap quaffers. The portrait range is on sale for $12 a bottle currently. Tried the portrait shiraz tonight and I found it a drinkable, fairly typical Barossa shiraz. It isn't going to blow you away, but difficult to complain at the price. I am assuming this is readily available. I visited two stores today in Melbourne and both had a reasonable amount of stock on show.

W&D, I'm not sure if Cellarmasters sell the Laurance (I had a brief look and was unable to find it), AFAIK the mention of the Laurance was at Dan's.

Don't go here folks. Overpriced muck even at reduced prices. Always been paying for the chick on the stick, not the wine. Very little good merlot in Oz but if you are prepared to age it, the Brown Hill merlot from Margs is well worth it. No connection etc.

Cheers

Dave

Few notes around this:

* Cheapest outlay is $36 for 3 bottles of Portrait and 1 magnum of Futures, so about $7 per "bottle" for decent quaffers.

* Magnum is the 2014 vintage, so the latest vintage. They're also selling the 750ml bottle for $18 on special. Was 2013 vintage in my store.

* Portrait Shiraz is most likely 2014 vintage, Cab Sav 2013

* They don't sell Clancy's anymore (unfortunately)

I was chatting online to a rep - no idea who it was - and indicated that DAVINCI was not working and so they gave me DAVINCI10 - I then told them I could buy it cheaper from Cracka at $72.20 - whomever I was talking to showed no inclination to drop the price to match or beat so Cracka it was.

they wouldn't price-match even though they have a Price Match Guarantee? :(

Its been available to members for about 3 weeks, $115.20

$109.95 at myCellars (only 15 left in stock - pm me for free delivery code) :)

Anyone tried Grant Burge Corryton Estate Cab Sav?
Cracka offer it for $60 (they say down from $185).
I've only heard about Corryton Park, not the Estate.

I hadn't had an opportunity to try this wine until recently. Thankfully Katy has kindly donated a bottle to the cause. Here are my tasting notes:

The blackcurrant fruit is still quite fresh. The wine is rich, concentrated and quite smooth, although just a tad too sweet for my tastes. The mid-palate complexity is a little subdued. There are some subtle graphite and pencil shavings flavours, and some dark cured meats but not a lot else going on. The tannins are fine and the balance and length are good. The one big positive is that there is some lovely cool mint on the back palate to help the wine down. All in all it’s a nice enough wine, it’s just not very exciting. I’d happily pay $30-$40 a bottle for it. But $180 a bottle is just bonkers, and $60 a bottle is still a little over the odds. A 91 on CT from me.

Thanks Katy for sacrificing a bottle to the greater good! I'm sorry we didn't get around to opening this while you were still present to enjoy it.

Has anyone tried the Sorby Adams in this pack? Could be good value with the MSV

Not that vintage, but I've had it before. Not a bad Clare Valley shiraz.
Strange on Dans site it is listed as both Eden Valley and Barossa. Its not worth more than $50 in my book; yes it has nice colour; fruit and spice but its not a high point scorer. Better wines out there both in price and taste. I had the 2010 from a similar pack a year or so ago. Cheers Rug

I think this might be the Pertaringa Rifle and Hunt 2014 - Tony Keys actually gave it 96 (rather than 95). Matches Sam Kim score, description, price, and has been up on VM earlier this year as well.

Thanks AC seems like it might be worth a dip given those scores.
