Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Maybe a failed export order as I have never seen TF under cork locally? I don't see the Michael Hall on Dan's website. I don't mind taking a punt, as I was on the lookout for some Barossa Shiraz anyway. But if it was confirmed as TF, I would love to get some friends onto it.
This was a prior offering of Turkey Flat Shiraz 2013 @ $32.90
https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY136/secret-selections-barossa-shiraz-2013
Details are a bit different to the current listing though.

*edit - ignore me, I was looking at the deal redbigot posted.

Only one of those wines could reasonably be called a "Barossa Valley Icon" too.

They are price matching, but not the quality. Some of them overripe, the body is not as thick as rwt.
Most of them are much cheaper (except maybe Johann Georg and Freedom if you pay full price).
Standish about $95, Eduard $60, JG $101, Eligo $75, Sons of Eden mid $50's.
Agree to disagree on the quality, it's not always about a "thick body".
And I work on QPR (Quality/Price Ratio) otherwise known as bang-for-buck as my budget is more or less fixed I need to keep the price in check or (heaven forbid, liver-willing) reduce consumption.

If so, that is possibly the biggest bargain of all time.

Not quite. You need to follow this forum more closely for that :)

Both HH and WF list TF as 14.3% alc

But that may be for the screw cap? Possible that the cork (secret selection) is a different alcohol content? Especially if it was a failed export order.

I'm not convinced yet that it is Turkey Flat but if so it's a good buy. One telling thing is that sometimes the same secret selection wine can be found in store. I've tried more than 20 DM stores across the country and none have the secret selection in stock.

So' I'll sit on the sideline for this one as there's too much risk for me at this point.

Yes, it's not a perfect match.

But I've looked at every Shiraz 2013 on TWF with 94 pts in the $25-$50 price bracket and I can't see any other good match.
It doesn't make sense why they would discount a wine like this so heavily(export fail??), but you do see these sort of pricing errors sometimes. It's our job to snaffle it up, no wonder I have so much wine! Just boomed on another 2 doz for friends(hopefully its TF), otherwise I won't be running out of Barossa Shiraz for a while.....

Remember that CM also did reviews for Winecompanion.

That didnt help though. Hares Chase Shiraz 2013 is available at DM and details match but it has a 96 pt review from JH in 2018 Winecompanion.

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_715227/hare's-chase-shiraz

Hares Chase doesn't really match.
I had a look on Wine Companion too, couldn't see any CM reviews that really matched better.

Maybe Sons of Eden Zephyrus (14.5%) or Grant Burge Balthasar (14%), both 94 from CM and around the right price.

It's Rose Kentish (ex-Ulithorne), it's been offered before at $25-$30, it's good, I just ordered more.

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_672148/rose-kentish-sparkling-shiraz-nv

Some of prior batches were under cork/Diam, some crown-sealed.

It's a drier/savoury style, not rich and sweet like some, nice complexity from older components.

Balthasar is under cork but as you say 14%. Grant Burge Shadrach has been a secret selection in the past so form is there.

If so, that is possibly the biggest bargain of all time. I've boomed on 2 doz, Turkey Flat at $15/btl is crazy talk.

The listing on eBay DM says this is under cork
Secret Selection Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013 Red Wine 750mL bottle | eBay

Another possibility is
Michael Hall Stone Well Shiraz 2013

But neither of those exactly match the 14.5% a/v, although they are the only two in the price range with 94pt reviews from CM on TWF.

...Ive found DM secret description seem to be full or errors lately. Maybe that allows them to ship more the a single wine (ie. the Hares chase, both Ironscraper and the 'Hares Chase Shiraz' shipped for same product.)
So, on a similar note there is a possibility this may also be Hares Chase Ironscraper... Mind you, thats really not a bad thing is it? Sure the Ironscraper 2013 is 14%alc but does that ever line up with DM? And 'Original Price' on DM fluctuates more then the weather we've had recently. In the end the higher 'original price' DM puts on, the more CR you get back ;) $14.90 is generally the low point DM sell Ironscraper for also.

Note the similarities:

CM 94pt review of Ironscraper 2013: "Dark, brooding colour and a palate to match. This is thick and grunty with asphalt, tar and liquid (dark) chocolate oozing slowly through the mouth. So chunky with flavour, you could carve it. It's well done, too."

DM_MYSTERY211/secret-selection-barossa-valley-shiraz-2013: "This Secret Selection is a classic Barossa Shiraz with a dark, brooding colour and palate to match. Full-bodied and rich with chocolate, cedar, and bramble

Yep, I just managed to grab some 2015 Woods Crampton Old John from cracka for $9 a bottle, as they dropped the price while still keeping a code active :) (they fixed price before others could benefit) Then the next day boomed on 2016 Old John from CM with a $50 voucher for $10 a bottle.... happy camper

That would explain why you can't find the review on WF, it is in Halliday by CM. If it is Ironscraper HH gave it 89pts.

Anything is possible, but does the Ironscraper have a selling price of $45.99? I know that it's a 'cellar release' so it's open to change, but if Dan's have pumped up the price like that, it makes them look like Vinomofo in the truth stakes...

I'm just looking forward to see what turns up, it will probably be like Christmas as a kid, when I was hoping for a remote control car, and instead got a pen and some undies....
