Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

@Hors Ey I also found it a little bit peculiar that 2014 vintage is not listed for sale on the official Rose Kentish website. Maybe it didn't make a cut or too young to drink?

I really expected a heavy big and bold style however I quite enjoyed the elegance and finesse of it.

I hope not because it's not good enough.
I did remember checking the website, and it only noted 08, 10, 11 and 13. Maybe she didn't get it updated on the website?

I think overall the majority who tried it enjoys it.

Yes, I enjoy the heavy rich style too. But a bit of variety works too sometimes. 👌

I have received Rose Kentish 2014 Cab/Shiraz yesterday. It came in an original Rose Kentish branded case of 6. Actually I discovered I had a bottle of 2013 left. The 2014 vintage didn't have a wax enclosure hat 2013 has - see the attached. Just a round paper sticker with Rose Kentish symbolic covering the cork.

I removed the cork and examined it (mindful of the reports of corked examples). The cork looked new as if it was only bottled quite recently - see the attached. Or maybe it was stored upright perish the thought.

The wine was gorgeous but it really felt like a very young vintage. Hard to believe it is 2014.
It felt lighter and more elegant than I recall 2013 was like, but maybe I am mistaken there.

Can definitely be kept for further 5 years at least.

Definitely more Cabernet that dominates than Shiraz, despite being medium bodied it had a great depth and long lingered after a sip. Ended up consuming more than my usual self imposed half a bottle limit so will see how it tastes today!
And here's Dan's final word on my attempts!

"While members pricing is generally synchronised across states, clearance prices are state, region or store specific, meaning even if the product is on a members special country wide, there can still be a clearance at some stores and regions.

No one should have honoured the $14.88 at other stores, if this price was given for other customers not in those clearance areas it was done it was done so incorrectly."

This is such a pile of cough it is not even funny. Facts are

1. It wasn't honored in store, it was honored online.
2. Online pricing was screwed up, different pricing sending to different post codes.
3. It wasn't a clearance store specific - it could have been shipped to numerous addresses.

ACCC could have a ball with this case. They are breaching their own the Lowest Liquor Price Guarantee policy.

Anyone been offered the new Larry Cherubino/DM 2018 releases? Chardy for 32odd (10% malo, 4 months on oak from memory) and straight cabernet for 35 (NFD).

These tasting notes just drive my envy and frustration that I couldn't get my hands on it from Dan's 😩
Waiting for the site to go back into melt down with the next great deal that is found. 😎

I am just grateful to the community here that alerted about this wine offering.

As my 2 Mexican pesos worth, I do think the UnderWraps section of DM is in the meltdown or experiencing a major glitch/bug.

For example have a look at this Underwraps Riesling.

which is the same as 2019 Premium Reserve Porongurup Riesling | Lake House Denmark

It should not be in the Under Wraps section. It is available at the same price from the producer so what is the point of keeping it hidden?

According to DM "Under Wraps features mystery wines from renowned producers at unbelievable, member-exclusive prices"

Unwittingly they are engaging in the deceptive and misleading conduct with that section as there are quite a few examples of full retail freight pricing offerings masquerading as exclusive member bargains.

Here is another one for example

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_ER_2000003952_CMVS16/under-wraps-mclaren-vale-shiraz that is currently selling for $100

Which they normally sell for $35 Under Wraps (I would not recommend it at either price for the record)

Lets hope they are reading this and will address it.

Let me clarify - when I said melt down I meant this AFF sight rather than Dans.

yes agree some of the under wraps products on DM’s are certainly not unbelievable at the moment - but that seems to be the cycle of under wraps which has significant pricing cycle fluctuations. I guess it’s best to watch the cycle and pull the trigger when you think it’s at the low. The danger there is always out of stock and fomo

Such a Shame. The wax definitely makes it look much better for $100 bottle and my guess, also leak proof.
Unless Rose is expecting we do our own wax dipping.

Thanks for the tasting notes! Look forward to try it in due course.
Mine were all bare corks, not even a cap. Two separate Rose Kentish boxes. I bought a $3 candle and made my own caps :-)

So I recently received my Under Wraps Barossa Shiraz I purchased last week

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produ...RING18/under-wraps-barossa-valley-shiraz-2018 $22.50 per bottle

which anyone with basic Google skills would work out it to be

https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produ...s-northern-grounds-barossa-valley-shiraz-2018 $45 per bottle

I think Epic Negociants have it on their website for $60 RRP

No idea how they figure it is $60 RRP

It feels concentrated, fruity, lush and opulent as you sip it in the middle but lacks depth and has quite a short and abrupt finish with no follow.

So if you expect a traditional big Barossa shiraz (like I did), you would be disappointed (like I am).

Even thought SA shiraz is more fruit driven type, I think they have really overdone on the fruit and made it a bit sweet even. So I think it is designed to be a crowd pleaser not to sound too obnoxious. I had two bottles over the weekend. First I took to my sister and my dad for a dinner and they both enjoyed it and took another to a dinner party that was a bit of a hit with people who traditionally don't drink Shiraz.

It is a bit similar to Grant Burge Ink Shiraz but it is a step up.

I just wish I bought more of 2012 Clarendon Hill Merlot that was superb instead!

My other Under Wraps Barossa Shiraz (2016 Piano Shiraz Barossa Valley) is coming today or tomorrow and I hope for a better expression of Barossa there!

Whoever only bought 6 out of 11 bottles of LEAS at BWS Turramurra, thank you for not mopping it all up :D

$62.50/bottle minus $50 makes 'em pretty decent buy.
