Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I don't know all of the wines (know all of the wineries though), but it seems like a fantastic deal! I think you'd be happy with that price for 12 bottles of the lowest priced, being the Gemtree Uncut Shiraz!

I'd be in if I got that offer! Where did you receive it from?

<some text redacted due to error>
Winemarket. It came as part of an email from Halliday's Wine Companion.

I had this deal sent to me today for $159 or $13.33 per bottle. Thoughts from the brains trust please. I don't know all of these but it seems a reasonable deal.

  • Wynns Black Label Cabernet 2012 - 2 bottles, RRP $45 per bottle- 96 Points, James Halliday
  • Heirloom Barossa Shiraz 2013 - 2 bottles, RRP $40 per bottle- 96 Points, James Halliday
  • Gemtree Uncut McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012 - 2 bottles, RRP $25 per bottle - 95 Points, James Halliday
  • Dandelion Lionheart of Barossa Shiraz 2012 - 2 bottles, RRP $30 per bottle- 95 Points, James Halliday
  • St Hallett Dawkins Vineyard Shiraz 2010 - 2 bottles, RRP $45 per bottle- 95 Points, James Halliday
  • Penny’s Hill Skeleton Key Shiraz 2012 - 2 bottles, RRP $35 per bottle- 96 Points, James Halliday

Edit: removed bowling of font from email cut/paste.

I'd value the pack at $160. So it's probably fair value, rather than a bargain.

The Dandelion is very ordinary and I wouldn't buy it myself. The others are Ok to good wines.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course but the amount of bling on this particular wine would suggest plenty disagree with this assessment.

So would suggest each do their own review and assessment.

I'm a bit of a fan of dandelion as well. Been picking up their 2012 Lionheart for between $12-$14, and at that price I'm happy to have it as a quaffer, but would not pay RRP of $30. It can easily stand up to a little aging, too. (That said, drank a 2009 Lionheart early this year and preferred their 2012 to it - just seemed more nuanced). Another member here mentioned it was being served in CX J class!

Thanks for your reply.

Turns out it was a bait and switch* from Winemarket that came as part of an email from Halliday's Wine Companion. That said, the 20% off seems to be a genuine offer.

I've not used Winemarket before and after clicking the deal and finding a dead link, I won't be using them anytime soon.

*Only my opinion.

It worked when it first came out, then went dead. I emailed both Wine Companion and Winemarket yesterday about it and it's back up this morning.

Can someone please recommend a decent Pinot Noir around $30 from DM? I have few dozens of shiraz in my fridge but my companion for dinner this weekend prefer pinot noir.

Agreed. Sisters run has a few nice wines

Sisters Run Epiphany Shiraz 2013 was $40 delivered for 6 the other week at 1st choice liquor. One day special though.... and they don't explicitly mention Epiphany on the website (picture might even be of the other Shiraz they offer).

Paringa Estate Pinot Noir - $28
And if you find some .... Oakridge Swallowfield Vineyard Pinot - $22 (Haven't seen it available for a while but a nice drop for it's price.)

Couldn't agree more MadMick10. Very hard to go past the paringa. Also worth looking at Kooyong Massale and the Nanny Goat, albert_ang.
Sorry Ive got no idea how to tag other members.

With the Pinot's how do Diamond Valley Blue Label ( E$22) and Coldstream (E$27) compare to the Paringa and others quoted - they are my staple ones when I feel like a decent Pinot at a good price ?

I also used to love the Stefano Lubiano but its price has rocketed to the high $30's.

I don't think you can go wrong with Coldstream Hills, Paringa or Stonier. I prefer the Stonier followed by the CH and then Paringa but it's just a matter of what taste you like I guess. Recently acquired some Dog Point that I'm keen to try over summer. TBH you probably shouldn't be listening to me - I don't drink much Pinot and when I do, I tend to splurge and go Ashton Hills, Dexter or 10 minutes by tractor.

Central Otago PN for about the same price as others recommended is sure to impress.
