catching up on some old posts...

I've found the under $30 price on Teusner MC Sparkling Shiraz 2010 still available when I set my store to Tuggeranong, ACT, but the prices goes up a lot when I ask to ship to my northern ACT address and pickup is not available.

I've created a Parcel Collect address at a local Post Office with the same post code as the Tuggeranong store and DM online allowed me to enter it manually, but I'm not game to complete the order.

Has anyone tried this workaround?
Besides perhaps missing me alluding to it a couple of months earlier, I was most surprised to discover that you of all people were unfamiliar with this workaround...

There doesn't seem to be a re-direct option for Parcel Collect deliveries.
When you call them after placing an order to ensure that it will be sent via AusPost not Endeavour (as the latter are not meant to deliver to post offices), it can be possible to redirect then

I've been buying some more Seppelt Show Reserve Sparkling Shiraz 2008 @ $57.78 after it was showing out of stock after my previous round of orders some time ago.

I have these delivered to a Parcel Collect address in the delivery area of an ACT store (Tuggeranong), the deliveries coming from other NSW and Vic stores. My last order of 6 was reduced to 4 and a subsequent order with my store set to Tuggeranong failed due to no stock available. One of my subscribers found another Sydney store with the low price and I succeeded with an order from there for delivery to my PC address, from a different Sydney store.
My analysis of their system indicates:
The algorithm is actually quite simple (apart from the sometimes noted exceptions).
1. Each store has a set of postcodes they deliver to at their listed price.
2. Each store has it's own price for each wine listed for delivery, even if they don't stock it.
3. When you order for delivery, no matter what your store setting for ordering, the lowest price at stores in your delivery area is allowed, but this may be much higher than your selected store.
4. Your delivery, once the order is accepted as above, can come from any store Australia-wide that has stock, no matter what their listed price. (There appears to be limitations on this per store, hence my ability to pick another store after the one I first used said no more stock, not that they had any in the first place, yet the price for delivery was honoured in the delivery area for the store with no more stock when I bought from a store with the low price in another area. Follow that?) In fact I tried an order from a high-priced store for delivery to my address within the delivery area of a low-priced store (with no available allocation) and the price reduced nicely in the cart at checkout.

Weird, but consistent. Very weird.

I'm not sure if multiple stores share some of the same delivery postcodes, I suspect some close stores would.

So, the only really crazy thing, if you accept the algorithm is reasonable, albeit a bit weird, is the odd occurrence of low prices at stores that don't stock the wine. That is really a strange thing to do and beyond my understanding of logic or even good business practice.

I don't really think the algorithm is in any way a normal thing to do either, I would have thought consistent pricing within a state/region would be more usual.

But I'm happy they do it this way, I'm reaping the bargains currently.

Update: There is one "gotcha" in the above, last bit of #4: The store with the low price has to show stock available (even if they have no allocation left), when they run out of allocation and the system (or someone) eventually updates and marks the item as oos, the trick no longer works.
Actually, as stated on their website, for a delivery order, the price is (meant to be) based upon that of the closest store to the full delivery address, not just the postcode, meaning that different stores could be closest to different addresses within the same postcode.
At checkout (not cart), you might have to switch a couple of times between pick-up in-store and delivery at the Parcel Collect address to ensure that prices are the same for both.
Only a few particular stores have dispatch facilities to fulfil delivery orders, and the closest one with enough stock to the delivery address will be allocated to do so.

I wouldn't normally considering paying for something like ShipSmart, but with my free subscription ending yesterday, it's tempting after all the clearance buying over the past year :)

I am unaware of any other bottleshop that offers the same variety as Dans - and also that through their sheer throughput I can understand that it is hard to keep their hundreds of outlets all having availability of every product at every moment in time. But am finding that if I am prepared to get stock sent rather than pickup, they are quite good.
Don't confuse quantity with quality :)

Boccaccio cellar riedel glassware cleanence but for pickup only in melb. check out that link and email or phone them to place your order.

In case anyone was wondering why, they were replacing them with Gabriel-Glas

Oh great brains trust - what is this?

Some key words used:
Southern Hemisphere wine maker - not NZ in this case, so most likely Giant Steps.

The information that it's not Felton Road or Rippon comes from Simon Green (My Wine Guy), he can't / won't confirm what it actually is, but has not commented on the Giant Steps latest guess.
I was somewhat surprised that a key word was apparently missed by people even though highlighted:

This winery is as BIG as it gets in the Southern Hemisphere

Thanks for the nice table - I could only simply list them a couple of months earlier :)

Hahaha yes good pick up there qaz, they were only listing sqm, my natural assumption was that was cubic metres! Maybe it's just me, but it seems slightly unintuitive to only give you two dimensions of a storage space (and selling themselves short! My guess is the storage space ended up being ~2.5 cubic metres 😁

I did not ask for a referral credit at the time, thanks qaz, but will enquire about a retrospective credit once I'm back from an overseas trip.
No worries - feel free to pm me :)

Thoughts on the current Dan Murphys wrapped wines? I didn't realise there was so many! I'm tempted to try a few to see if their valued!
besides searching here for past posts, check this deal on OzBargain

$26 at Dan's. I think I'll hold off until I can find some Shadowfax, their Chardonnay is really good at the moment.
Don't know if still available, but some stores had Shadowfax chardonnay and pinot noir for $10 last year - I preferred others including M3, Scorpo

20% off is nice but not enough to make me buy.
As you said there are many wine sales ATM and I’m sure we’ll see even better discounts down the track.

Exactly, I'm seeing 40%+ for some range. 20% is ok, if they have something you really want.

Mario Marengo Barolo Bricco delle Viole $115 $70
Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate Riserva $250 $155
Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate $150 $93

Some discounts at East End on Barolo.

Someone mentioned earlier that 6pack might be GEOFF HARDY WINES PERTARINGA Undercover Shiraz, McLaren Vale 2016

I grabbed it at $90, but it seems they have it on auction.

it seems cheap at auction, plenty at $9-10 for 2x-3x

I feel like I got ripped :(

Wait until the final price, then add 15% + GST on the 15% and delivery...

$15 is a reasonable price for the Undercover Shiraz.

I didn't need it until this instance and I spend most of my time on my own site, didn't see your earlier post and it was easier to ask than search here.

All my Parcel Collect deliveries (more than a dozen now) have all been sent via Aus Post without calling DM. There is no option to redirect PC deliveries in My Post, but I am told it can be done if you call customer service. I haven't bothered as the PC address is close enough to drive to and give the old E55 a nice run as well. The PC location is the closest to me that I could find in the delivery area of the relevant store.

I wouldn't normally considering paying for something like ShipSmart, but with my free subscription ending yesterday, it's tempting after all the clearance buying over the past year :)

I think I've had good value from Shipsmart in just over 3 months, a lot of small, under $300 and single bottle deliveries of wine and spirits.

The plan - call Dans online and tell them you are returning this cough - they will ask do you want it collected or do you want to drop it into store - drop into store if it’s under wraps offer or delivery only offer.

View attachment 209638

When you go into store they will basically have no idea how to process the return and will simply just concoct a new Dans Gift Card to value of your purchase. As this can easily get lost in tracking system ant cash back can and usually does but not always stick - in this case 12 x $6/bott = $72 - I will update down the track as it unfolds.
Tks SB - $6/bott on ret CH Hick stuck - Dan’s could not handle the return online so just gave me a $315 voucher to use - SB no wiser about return to Dan’s

On my Forum if you search for the identifier part of the DM listing url eg DM_MYSTERY414 it will bring up relevant threads/posts, but a few I tried here didn't work, maybe the Forum software here does not index urls the same as SMF does, or maybe I just picked ones that are not here. Same for Vinomofo Black Market deals by searching with the deal number.

I did find one that worked DM_MYSTERY416, but the url was in plain format (https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_MYSTERY416/under-wraps-barossa-valley-shiraz-2017 ), not the processed link format Hares Chase Ironscraper

Trying to order some of the Ironscraper using a Vic address. Getting the message below in the Cart. Guessing there isnt much I can do?

The following item is unavailable for Standard delivery.
Please remove from your order, or try another delivery method.

Langtons Auctions any good? After the 15%, 10% and $10 min postage It gets close but some high ticket bottles, still 10% savings but nothing to cry over.

Auctions are good mostly for rare products. The big risk is you never know in which conditions the previous owner stores them. I know for a fact Langtons don’t bother checking therefore if can find the same product sold in retail I would get it even if the cost slightly higher.

Oh it's sold by people? I thought it was direct. Fair enough, I spose people get rid of what they don't like.

Qty: 2 x Bottle
Est/item $12 - $16
Current bid/item
$11

So when bidding is that $11 for 2 bottles, or $11 per bottle?

Per bottle.

About once per year I send to Langtons wines that are one of:
1. Increased in price where it's profitable to sell (very few left of that era now), eg Rockford, Wendouree, old Penfolds
2. Just excess to requirements (although friends take some of these at my cost price)
3. Didn't turn out how I expected.

I seldom buy at auction.
