Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

My GWD case has arrived today. For all the doubters - the lid color matches up with the Signature.

The bottle shape looks very similar to that of the Signature comparing photos.

Under cork so wouldnt be the quaffer which is screw cap.

And the taste?

I was told by someone at GWD that they believe it to be The Signature. This is a very good wine although I haven't had the 2016. Put it down for a while - I'll be starting to drink these in 5 years.

"Exhibiting power and presence, this engaging red offers amazing depth of flavour and texture with blackcurrant, sweet plum, cigar, cedar, olive and violet characters on the nose, followed by a compelling palate that’s mouthfilling and substantial. At its best: 2026 to 2049. $320.00." 98 Points.

Anyone know the latest JD Cellars? I'm curious, under $100. Appy last vintage at Dan's $319.

Chateau Tanunda 150 year old vines field blend. Not a great review from Mike Bennie on winefront (90 points).

Lucluc, you know you don't have to do every deal that pops up don't you??!!

I would also add that, @Mynameislucluc - you can also find some wines at a full retail price that would be far superior and offer a better value for money than those heavily discounted ones with all the razzmatazz and fanfare.

For example something like this or this if you can bear a thought paying a RRP.
The fact that it is heavily discounted, doesn't automatically means a great value or great drinking.

On the topic of Tanunda - I was probably unlucky but I never came across any spectacular wines in my travels - nice winery to visit though.

Yeah, I understand.

I've had recommendations of wines through Nick's, which aren't discounted. As everyone mentioned, I won't be getting discounts on most French and most the big labels lucky to get 20-30% CB at most if lucky. I haven't jumped on any secret deals for a while, probably just the Angove.

The foil colour is similar but I don't think that may mean much - the 2016 Signature bottles I've seen online have Yalumba printed in gold ink on the foil, so are a different foil.

I'm in for some and am hoping it is the same wine as Signature, the tasting notes description of it was pretty similar between GWD and the Yalumba's tasting note for the 2016 vintage (redcurrant, cedar, cranberry etc)

Signature seems too good to be true and if it's an export prob not listed on the Yalumba website. I also note there are a bunch of wines on the website with similar bottle shape.

Based on previous deals we saw recently I don’t think it’s too good to be true. Yalumba wines are 30-40% overpriced to begin with IMO. They could get away with it until recently for obvious reasons but the local market is too small and overflowing with supply ATM. Also, for a wine to be sold as cleanskean it better be heavily discounted. I recall VC offering fully labeled Signature for $35 on sale previously so $18 unlabelled is not that outrageous, particularly in a year one could get Art Series CS for the same price or Blackwell for $15 or WB Grey < $10 and the list goes on and on :)

Agreed. I bought a 6 pack - clean skins are a risk, but at $99 the risk is low

That Art Series was a steal
