Another thing, if allowed just make daily transactions ($10k each day). But make sure you pay the funds onto the card the same day as the transactions (cash at DJ checkouts: different registers until the $10k is paid, which it shows paid on the receipt).

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

YOU BAD!! (will explain my stupidity! )

Please DON'T even put your account 1 friggin cent in credit! As the DJ amex accounts department 10000000% dislike anything in the form of account credit!

How do I know this? Somehow I managed to put my account in credit, thought nothing of it and made a purchase... ($2k+)......

Rejected......

Rang them up, bla bla bla

Your DJ card is NOT a card where you can put extra cash into and treat it as a debit/savings/rainy day account (ie: spare funds so you don't get rejected if 20c over the transaction limit!).

Bloke said my account was actually SUSPENDED! due to being in credit (them owing me a tiny pinsy cash amount!)...

Spoke to the department dealing with it, changed my account back to "spendable again", and said that you cant have it in credit, its only allowed to be a debt, as it's a credit card, not a savings card (not acual quote)...

Weird thing is, there didn't really seem to be a debt cap on my spending (3k limit, and reached; but available balance says either 3k or 6k quite often!).

(Edit: spelling)

This has not been the case with me AT ALL. I have had the card for 12 months now and it has almost always been in credit, usually by more than a couple of hundred dollars. Never once have I received a call from DJ or have the card suspended. No problems whatsoever and have always earnt points on usual.

I would go ahead and put it in $10,000 credit no problems.

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

Is the conversion rate to spg still 2:1?

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

Yes, its stil half your points if transferred to SPG.

I've done a few partner swaps over the last 6 months....

QFF / SPG / QFF (current provider! )...

It's a big risk to take though. I need the 30,000 points so not prepared to risk it.

I don't think it's a risk at all considering I've been doing it on the DJ card for more than 12 months.. No phone calls never blocked. In fact I have done it on several other cards and never been questioned.

I might ring them tomorrow and ask the question

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

I'm with coles on this thinking. Provided your purchase is not for the full $20k I would split it into amounts at or under your $10k limit. Spend $10k and then pay that off ...same day or subsequent days. Then when your account balance is back to $zero go ahead and make the 2nd $10k purchase. I would think the entire transaction could be done over 2 consecutive days.

I'm not so sure that that is a good plan. why draw attention to yourself? Do you really think the call centre operatives are the font/fount of all knowledge about the ins and outs of their programs?

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

Has anyone else noticed the transfer ratio for DJ MR points to Hilton is now 1:1, I remember it was 1 DJMR = 0.5 Hilton point. Is this useful? Can we transfer points from Hilton to airlines like SPG?

Conversion rate for SPG is still 1 DJMR = 0.5 Star point.

I don't believe you can transfer from HHonors to competing hotel programs like SPG, however there is an extensive list of airline loyalty program partners that will exchange hh points for airline points.

I don't find the transfer rate particularly compelling myself, but as always ymmv. For example, 10,000 HH points = 1500 velocity points. 10,000 hh points = 1500 qantas points as well.

Both VA and QF points are worth at least 3c to me, hh points I value at 0.5c, so, 10,000 points = $50 of redemption value at hilton for my circumstances, 1500 VA points at 3c each = $45 of redemption value.

Sorry I should have phrased my question perhaps more clearly, I meant to ask if we could transfer HHonors points to Airline programs like we can with SPG. You've answered that perfectly so thanks. :)

So If I do want to convert 40,000 DJMR to airline points, I can go via SPG, 40,000 DJMR= 20,000 Star points = 25,000 VA or QF points (assuming SPG allows transfers to both).

With HHonours, 40,000 DJMR= 40,000 HHonours = 6000 VA or QF points. No brainer really to go with SPG.

Have I missed something?

SPG is definitely the best use but I'm about to cancel, aside from the 3 points for service stations not worth the $99 fee.

I am not part of DJMR, so whilst I'm vaguely aware of the different transfer rates I can't easily check the current situation. I'm somewhat surprised that DJMR is transferring to HH at 1:1 as this would be the same as the standard Amex MR scheme .. when I last looked at DJMR it was, as you have suggested, 1xDJMR=0.5 HH.

SPG transfers to VA (but not QF) at 1:1, so, if 40,000 DJMR = 20,000 SPG, then, this could work in your favour if you wanted VA points, because I believe SPG will award 5,000 bonus points upon the transfer of 20,000 points ... so, 40,000 MR = 20,000 SPG, transfer those at 1:1 to VA and gain another 5,000 SPG at 1:1 = 25,000VA points in that transaction.

If you were to transfer direct to VA from DJMR then you'd only get 40,000DJMR = 20,000VA.

If we were after QFF points, I think there is an option to direct sweep (not transfer) from the DJ rewards scheme to QFF at 1xDJ reward=0.75QFF, so 40,000 earned DJ rewards (not MR) = 30,000 QFF.

Depends a lot on what you are trying to achieve. If you are about to cancel your DJMR card and need a safe haven for your accrued points, and if transfer to SPG is 1:0.5 then that seems like a reasonable way forward that still allows some flexibility. If you are keeping the DJMR card and really want QFF points then you are probably better off transferring your DJ rewards points to QFF via direct sweep rather than having those DJ rewards end up in the DJMR scheme.

Yes I was surprised that HHonors is now 1:1 on the DJMR too.

I have the platinum card which attracts a higher annual fee but I am confident I can get that waived. Even if they don't waive it, I will still keep this card. I had the card on the direct sweep QF but I am not interested in QF points anymore. (have other cards for that).

I'll go the SPG route and transfer to VA/AA/SQ and get 5000 bonus points on the way too!

Please update if you can get annual fee waived, as AMEX rather you cancel than waive the fee.

I applied for the Plat card instore on Sunday and got the approval email yesterday, pretty impressed so far.
I think I will take the 30K QFF points as I'm sure I can put them to good use if they hit my account before the end of June :)
I'm now going to retire my Earth Amex from all supermarket and DJ's purchases.

Re: David Jones Amex 30K MR or 22500 QFF bonus signup until 7Oct, instore, $99 annual

I was also told that you dont need to be a new American Express customer to get this card. So if you already have a Amex you can still get the bonus points.

That was my experience albeit a year ago.
