I'm travelling SYD - BKK with QF at the end of the month (Y) returning early Aug , would like to use points to upgrade to Business one way , but wondered how to make the most of the experiance. The flight over is daylight and the return is overnight , I'm not a great sleeper on an aircraft ! My connection times in SYD are'nt long ,what do members think ? Day or night ?
Thanks for any suggestions ,tips .

It would be a 330 aircraft with Skybed Mk I.

If you find aircraft sleep difficult then if you want the "Experience" then to BKK would be the go.

On the way back you can not sleep in economy or not sleep in business.

You could request it both ways; if the outbound clears then you can cancel the return request.

It's generally a lot easier to sleep in business, but then again if you don't think you'll sleep anyway it wouldn't make much difference. It's up to you, I guess that if you think you'll need the sleep, then take the night option. If you'd prefer to enjoy the experience, while awake for all of it, take it for the day flight. Also, I think the day flight is slightly longer, meaning more time to enjoy J.

I wouldn't pick a daytime flight simply because you think you might enjoy it more... it is likely the window blinds will be drawn anyway, or it could be cloudy (so maybe no views), and there is only so much food and beverage you can drink. Even on a day flight you'll be sitting there with not a lot to do except watch a movie or sleep. I would go for the night flight to arrive a little more refreshed with more room and amenities such as PJs and hot towels etc.

If you can't sleep then J is wasted at night. I suggest you go during the day and enjoy the experience.

My personal choice would be take Y during the day and then J for the night flight purely because I can sleep in the bed.

Whatever you choose enjoy the experience and be aware you'll never want to go back to Y.

Put in an upgrade request for both. The lower your QF status the lower your chances, its not a guaranteed upgrade remember.

The biggest benefit of J IMO is the ability to sleep, so for that reason I'd go for the night flight.

I prefer to fly when I would normally be awake. Ie during the day.
Moreover if I had he option I would J both ways. (JASA?)
