DC right for me?

SPG and Velocity seem to be at good conversion rates. Most of the other partners are not so lucky. Hilton at 2:1 is awful, Krisflyer at 2:1 is not good either compared to a 1.5:1$ earning Amex.

If you get the more expensive DC card though, don't you earn 3 diners points per $1 which then convert at a rate of 2:1 for Krisflyer?

Therefore your Krisflyer rate per $1 is actually 1.5....?

The better thing to do would be to convert 2:1 to SPG, and then 1:1.25 to SQ, so effectively 1.875 per $1.

Qantas canned SPG as a partner just over 4 years ago. This was shortly they also canned most ad hoc rewards crediting the QFF - going almost entirely "direct sweep" or bust.

Thanks! You guys are amazing. I wish I started frequenting here when it was first mentioned to me many years ago. I may have made WP when there was any time lounge access :)
Must admit to being annoyed at the Diners spin on this. I checked and rechecked about the Qantas transfer. Nevermind....I am learning more about the possibilities for the points here

I should also point out to anyone thinking about this card combo that I had to break ATO payments into smaller bits because payments were being refused...one of the reason I have many cards to keep options open.
Also when recently doing some points gathering via the (cough, cough) RBA this was the only card that gave grief. The transaction was refused. I rang Citibank* and discussed it and they said it would be ok and it was refused again!
More phone calls and it all went through. So it may be best not to expect smooth sailing.

*I meant to type Diners, but Citi run Diners in Australia anyway

On your first point, yes, QFF in their infinite "wisdom" have decided that except for the American Express Platinum Card (annual fee $900), you can't have credit cards which earn points which can go either to Qantas or other airlines. It's either QFF or nothing, they call it "direct earn", you could call it "forced earn".

The DC business card actually does let you redeem to QFF or to other airlines - the same as the Amex plat although I'm not sure about redemption rates. Harder to get than the personal card but a good option if you qualify.
