I am thinking to leave on 19 or 20 Dec 08 to HKG. There are flights but very expensive. I searched travel, bestflights, zuji and webjet. The cheaper ones ($1700+) are with SIA and QF ; both require overnight stay in Singapore. Questions: 1. Any other websites or travel agents you would recommend? 2. Should I wait until more seats been released (if this is the practice of airlines)? Thank you for your assistance.

Are you after one way or return and if so what date for return ?

Great tool to find flight prices although they dont sell the actual tickets but atleast you know what you can get fom an agent or other website.

CX (Cathay Pacific) have recently been really difficult, one day they have the cheap fares loaded and are good, the next day they are gone, then a few days later back again. S if you find a really cheap CX fare jump on it, and if you think you missed it maybe wait a couple of days.

elight,

Welcome to AFF.

A little more info would help here.

Do you have much flexibility with dates :?:
Where are you travelling from :?:
When are you planning to return :?:

Remember it may be the outbound leg, the inbound leg or both that causes the high price so sometimes adjusting the dates a little can give much better results. The link that Evan has given you is a very good starting point.

The direct flight for a few hundred $'s more may be the best answer and save on accommodation costs. Alternately look Aust to Singapore then a separate booking to HKG. Try going a bit outside the square will often achieve good results. ;)

Evan, Thanks for the link: same price there. I am traveling during the peak time and have to avoid the need to obtain approval at work for leaving before everyone else before Xmas. Straitman, Sorry, forgot to provide these details: 1 Do you have much flexibility with dates - not really. If my schedule is flexible, I could get on Viva Macau from Sydney for around $700.00 return (plus some $30 from Macau international to HK). Unfortunately, I don't think work will allow me to take off so early in Dec. 2 Where are you travelling from - Melbourne (preferred) or Sydney 3 When are you planning to return - between 10 and 17 Jan 09. Thank you both for your kind assistance.

Yes, it would appear that there is little in theway of cheap fare classes between HKG and AU (hence the cheaper fares via SIN)
This may be as good as it gets. (A combination of peak times and also the cost increase of fares recently due to oil prices)

I have been looking to purchase SIN/HKG-SYD return and find the airfares very expensive returning to SIN/HKG a few days before Christmas. I have been able to find a BKK-SIN/HKG-SYD return much cheaper that the direct flights.

Always pays to look at all available options.
