Delayed baggage bad experience

I'm sure I read somewhere that 5% of baggage gets mishandled ... which makes me wonder how I've been so lucky to date to only have it happen to me a couple of times.

Surprisingly it's only around 5-10 bags per 1000 passengers.

Thanks Insider ... thought the 5% was a little high.

Still, that's up to 10 bags per 3x747s .... the chances are it's going to happen sooner rather than later. Hence, you should always be prepared for when it *does* happen.

Insurance, necessities in cabin bags etc etc all work to mitigate.

One thing you missed is I flew J, I paid lots of money to make sure my baggage was tagged as priority, to get off the plane quickly and through to immigration in the express queue to be out of BOM airport quickly (anyone who has travelled to this airport here will know what I mean) instead I got stuck in this hot mosquito infested airport, at a baggage desk 'scrum' with staff that didn't know what to do or even what Qantas's own policy was.

Unfortunately for whatever reasons some baggage is either delayed or doesn't turn up at all, that's just part of the game we play.

Late last year we flew SYD-SIN and my luggage did not even get loaded onto the QF flight, whilst my girlfriend's bag made it through fine. We checked in at the same time, had our bags tagged with First tags as we're both WPs and strangely mine never made it. We had a separate SQ ticket connecting to MLE early the next morning ... the service desk in SIN gave us some cash iirc SGD$100 for the inconvenience. Thankfully Giodarno and G2000 are inside the Terminal as they are cheap but decent clothing but worse case was, I would just wear my budgie smugglers at the Maldives for a few days ;)

Although our actual QF ticket was only SYD-SIN, QF promised to send my bag all the way to MLE and would have on-forward same should we have departed MLE by the time the bag did not arrive, that's pretty good service IMO.

+1 other comments.

It's the main reason that my carry on always has enough for 2 days at the other end in the (unlikely) event luggage doesn't make it with me. Needs a light case and careful packing to get under the 7kg weight limit.

I really do not understand the tones in this thread from some people.

All in all my bags were delayed for 20 hours.

Other than that useless kit, what else should I expect from Qantas in regards to compensation?
Not sure what you can ask for now but at the time it may have been possible.

I had my bags delayed ~12 hours in the USA and AA offered me $100 at the time to go and buy some clothes. Did not have time so did not take up the offer. The bags actually took 3-7 days to get back to me and in the end I claimed back on travel insurance a sizeable amount for clothes etc.

I was under the impression if the delay was <6 hours then they provide you with an amenity kit but if starts to get >12 hours then you can purchase clothes and anything else you need.

Did you purchase anything and have you got any travel insurance?

As others have said, it is simply one of the frustrations of flying, but on the whole statistically low occurence. Regular travellers accept the chance and get on with their lives. Suggest you do the same. Also, T&C are there for a reason - to stop you wasting youtr time, and the time of others, by seeking to claim something for which you are not entitled.

But but but, the OP was flying business and is a silver, so Qantas should treat him extra special so the T&C don't apply. Grrrr
