Delayed by industrial action - sign of things to come?

Engineering cuts and more offshore work is the greatest concern of all! How can QF maintain high Australian standards when the work is carried out overseas? Are we going to get more Singaporean prisoners to clean aircraft?

Couldn't let this one slip by - is this what you are referring to?? What shoddy overseas maintenance are you thinking about? Is this comment just about protecting australian jobs?

Staff at the airport haven't had a payrise in 5 years and cannot even get 3% without trade offs. GD got 27% last year alone and similar amount the year before.

Would you be referring to the deal which the unions agreed to a lauded here? http://www.usu.org.au/usu/artman/publish/qfeba8_10.pdf. Also remember that GD's remuneration is linked to the performance of the airline - if it does well he does well. If we have another 9/11 and another downturn in traffic - his salary is directly affected.

Our airlines are heading straight down the US path - no customer service, no care attitude, take it or shove it approach, bare minimums, offshort maintenance - and if you travel through the US, you'll know what that feels like!

Would this be the same airline going down the US route that is refurbishing all aircraft that arent being replaced with brand new aircraft? The same airline that has rebuilt its key lounges (apologies to teh regions for that but you can understand that they would focus where the biggest throughout is first) to be some of the best in the world?

I have flown a great deal in the US recently (not as much as some of course) and QF blows away the standards for example AA. Qf have diversified their product offering through the development of JQ but have also enhanced the product offering on mainline.

All businesses are looking to control costs - I have even felt envelopes for CHristmas cards seem thinner this year...

Given your partner is CL why doesnt he raise concerns with QF and get a meaningful response?

I do understand your feelings but a good crew can make a world of difference. QF seems to be a little bit hit and miss but it's a bit of a generalisation to say they have a no care attitude. I've had a couple of crews who would bend over backwards to help me, and I'm in whY.

I meant the US staff are getting like that - sorry, was not referring to QF staff - I have always had GR8 service on Qantas and love the Australian way - not overbearing, fake politeness, but sincere down to earth ozzie folk! Love Qantas and am very passionate about keeping it Australian!

There are soooooo many OTHER areas which could have costs cut - not those affecting passengers directly!!! I wonder if the introduction of the new Australian airlines and then consequent wiping it out would have affected GD's performance based salary - I think not! How many millions again??? The court costs for not paying travel agents their due commission on fuel levies? How many millions???? The freight rort and the possible $47 m fine? Affecting GD's pay?! Yeh right!

He is far too busy working to be looking at sites such as this or writing to QF - overall happy anyway, so no point! Nice that you do your homework!

So did Ralph Fiennes, but then again he was in J.:p

Yes, they were the days! They were that funny that even they couldn't contain themselves!

Getting back on topic

QF's treatment of staff has a material effect on our travel experience.

We all have knowledge of cost cutting in other organisations that is petty and in the long term negative in terms of branding and overall profitability.

Because it is not unique to QF does not make it best practice.

I fully support the staff.

Your post implies the ban was imposed by the unions. What was the justification given by the unions for this action?

Apparently I am told that a union organiser tried to get access onto the site (something not allowed any more) and was thrown out...thus the ban.

Whilst I don't know the internal workings of the TWU, that sounds like a frivolous reason for a work ban if said ban is instigated based on that incident alone. At least for unions I'm familiar with, no union/union organiser/delegate will instigate a strike or work ban without substantial justification as the legal implications are just not worth it.
