Late next month, Marge the kids and I will be arriving at LAX on VA1 and then switching to a DL flight to SEA in F about 3.5 hours later. We'd like to access the DL lounge to have a shower, etc. I read somewhere that DL doesn't provide lounge access to F pax but VA's site seems to suggest that we should be able to access the lounge.

Has anybody experienced any difficulties accessing the DA lounge using VA status for a DL ticketed domestic flight?

I'll be on VA1 in early June.

I'll transfer to SAN on DL and will use Amex platinum card for access to lounge. Aren't you a centurion cardholder? That should give you access.

Personally never had an issue as either a VA SG or VA WP at LAX.

The family bit may alter things.

Yep, I've got a Centurion card. I've never been in a DL lounge so I'm just being overly cautious/scared of US lounge dragons. :)

Thank you. I had read the Australian Business Traveller article - it came up in a search - but as it specifically referred to a trans-con trip several times I wondered whether this was somehow being treated differently for lounge access. I feel (mostly) reassured. :)

The guest policy is one guest only. We had quite a bit of trouble accessing the DL lounge in PHX with 4 kids in tow. Shrek and I are both VA WP. Were told its one guest only. After a bit of gentle persuasion they let us in but advised if the lounge became busy we would need to leave.

Ah, that's what I was afraid of. Given Foreigner's tip about Centurion card access, I wonder if I could guest in one child and then Marge could use her card to access the lounge with Maggie?

I'm not sure about Amex guesting in DL lounges. I know that Centurion and Plat Charge get a guest in Amex operated lounges in the US but that's definitely worth a shot.

According to the Centurion site we get access to the DL lounge in terminal 5 but guests are $29 per person. I'm hoping that Maggie, at age 4, is just waived through on Marge's card. I should be able to guest Lisa on my VA Gold membership. I think.... (fingers crossed)

I'm pretty confident that you will be ok without paying in that case.

My 18 year old daughter who carries the VA WP card net of Pooling SC has never been able to access the DL L @LAX due to age<21. However she has a 100% access rate at DL L @SLC. DL L @LGA 25%

Would that be due to the legal drinking age in California being 21? I read somewhere that DL applies this age rule in lounges that have a bar.

That is my assumption and that all DL Lounges have pubs. The success variability has been therefore assumed to due to lounge dragon variances.
