I have a Jetstar flight in 2 weeks from Sydney to Proserpine and i wondered if anyone can advise my chances of getting a refund rather than a credit voucher. My details are:

- They haven't cancelled the flight yet. It's booked for Tues 28 Sept. When (relative to a flight occurring) do they normally cancel the flight ?

- When i look at *this* week's schedule ie w/c 13.9.21 it still shows Jetstar flights occurring during this week. So .. for example .. 2-3 days out, they have still not cancelled the flights for this coming week.

- Does that mean they are still flying that route with empty planes ?

I believe I am permitted to cancel the seats but under those t & c's i only get a credit voucher and not a refund. I really don't want a credit voucher as the administration of keeping track of vouchers is too much (even if it is valid for 3 years).

Any advice given would be much appreciated.

Looks like they are cancelling some flights but not all. Cash refunds are only available if they cancel the flight so not much more you can do other than take a gamble and change your travel date (possibly at more expense) to a date which could get cancelled. Keep repeating if necessary and odds are that eventually your flight will get cancelled.

Or just take the credit. Jetstar credits aren't bad. Very flexible, unlike Qantas credits.

If you are successful in getting a cash refund - it took me several "chats" with Jetstar online to get mine - make sure you keep a record of these "chats" as I was promised a cash refund and a credit voucher turned up in my in box ! It is not an easy process !!

They will almost certainly cancel that flight as you can't arrive in Proserpine from NSW even if you have an exemption (no HQ there).

Hold out for them to cancel it, then you can go on chat to get a refund. Do not cancel it yourself or you will only get a credit.

Thanks Justin, that's very helpful. Do you know their timescale for the cancellation of flights ? They are still - for example - showing that i can book a flight for this week (Tues, Wed I think). This implies it is "day before" or "day of" that they do the cancellations ?

I may have given you some false hope, I looked up recent flights and they have been flying some of them on this route (but also cancelling some).

On reflection I guess WA/SA/TAS could be transiting through SYD.

The advice still stands though, keep an eye on it, and once it gets too close for comfort cancel it yourself for the credit, hopefully they will cancel the flight.

I received notification that my JQ flight on a Sunday morning was cancelled only on Saturday afternoon...
