Hey guys,
Next week Im off to hong kong (yay!!!!!). Im wondering is it cheapers to buy a ring in hong kong to ask my gf to marry me while we are over there?

Im planing to have dinner on victoria peak on her birthday and ask her.

Im looking at around $4k HKD.

A friend from Hong Kong recommended Matthew Jewellers in Shop 34, G/F, Far East Mansions. I was there last month and was very impressed with value. I saw a small version of Princess Diana's, now Princess Kate's, engagement ring for A$1500. Good luck!

Diamonds basically are an international commodity with pretty well standard prices. The difference will be how much you pay for the setting which can be cheaper in Asia.Certainly if purchasing a larger diamond it is best to get one with a certificate-eg GIA.This basically quarantees the grade-ie size, colour and clarity.
Many years ago my wife and a woman we knew were in HK at the same time and they both bought a diamond ring.Mrsdrron's had a certificate but was significantly smaller than the other. The difference is mrsdrron still wears hers as the quality was much better and the valuation higher on returning home.
There are plenty of sites you can check giving advice on diamond quality.

Good luck with the proposal let us know how it goes
Make sure you tell the check in staff at the airline your returning on you may end up with an upgrade

Can recommend Chow Tai cough jewellery company.

Chow Tai cough Jewellery Co., Ltd

This very large company has over 1,300 throught out Asia and are verywhere in HK.

They recently entered into an agreement with Rio Tinto to promote Argyle Pink Diamonds in China.

FWIW, the FS HK executive club conceige recommended this company to us.
