I reckon if you read the T&Cs lifetime means life of the person and/or the airline.

Not lifetime but one of my employers allows QF and VA club membership to be salary sacrificed.

Not necessary at all. I salary sacrifice and can use the money in my salary sacrifice account for anything at all. Counts as living expenses.
