Differing airport charges

Just saw this in the Singapore paper today on CX734 SIN-HKG. Yikes! Didn't know the vast difference in airport charges (apart from the rule of thumb to avoid Heathrow)! My observation is that the quality of the airport does not commensurate with the charges rendered!

Sydney charges $28.51 per passenger inc GST, don't believe everything you read, the rest is federal taxes etc, to get to $135 they are adding the departure tax (now called a passenger service charge) and surmising its a round trip to 2x the Airport component.

I don't understand those figures at all.

How can airlines make money when I have paid less than $135 for a flight to SYD from BNE.

I saw on QF website AKL to SYD app $150
