Dilemma: Platinum One or QF Plat + VA Platinum

Brilliant stuff Storyteller; I would not be able to put it as succinctly as that - although maybe with a few more sips of T.H.'s TC's I might try¹.

The thing is, a couple of years ago while firmly married (or handcuffed) to QFF I began a fling with the Air NZ "Air Status"² Program. They seduced me with a great offer and after initially taking the plunge I have found they suit me as "the one on the side".

Now they have entered a polygamous relationship with Virgin Australia and I find that I have to consider which of the dual mistresses to pledge my loyalty to. Both freely interchange the benefits I am most interested in, but to garner the upper levels going forward I need to pledge my [defacto] troth to one or the other.

All this while QFF seemingly just looks on and does little.

¹ Actually went to the nearest Safeway this evening and puchased some TC's at 25% all up discount. Average bottle price was ~7.50 and I earned 480 QFF points. :p

² "Air Status" - as it's really a status program - you earn precious few "Airpoint Dollars or "Air Bucks". Although, very good for confirmed international flight upgrades.

This is just the last of several posts here that make me see a need to for a counselling business on the side.
(deleted a whole lot here)
Could get into trouble with the mods if i keep going, especially of we start asking Serfty & swmbo about handcuffs.

Is Platinum One really going to be that special?

There is no way I could maintain status in both programs but if I had the opportunity I would spread my flying around and not have all my eggs in the one basket.

Yup. I can maintain QF WP, via JASAs, VA WP and maybe AA EXP. Good time to be alive.

GoWatson - if mrs GoWatson needs you home more - I'm happy to work for you and do some of those nasty BIS long hauls for you :)

(just to ease the burden of you having to carry so many SC's).

Is this all necessary travel or are you including planned travel to make up the shortfall required to obtain status?

I would be surprised if someone who earns ~3,600 SCs with Qantas would be able to maintain the 3 statuses mentioned above plus possibly some sort of *Alliance status that I noticed in another thread without status runs.

Also AA Executive Platinum does not make sense unless you plan on getting rid of Qantas Platinum.

And what you call strident criticism I call speaking about the erosion of benefits rather than towing the company line and accepting that all "enhancements" are positive.

Toeing the company line, not towing it - you're not moving it from one spot to another!

sorry but it's one of my bugbears :-)

I not even QF have any idea what Plat One is...they rushed an announcement to pre-empt what Virgin were about to do with Velocity Plat.

I won't be holding my breath. Just did a status match to Velocity Plat and I must say the benefits are great - especially elite recognition with Hilton or Inter-Con hotels. I wonder what QF will come up with?
