Diners club companion card

If Citibank want people to use this Diners Card as their default go-to, then they really need to either disable the chip until such time as it can be read, or reprogram the readers to accept swipe the first time when tried. The card is painful to use as is. You have to go through the whole chip rejection procedure before it'll allow you to swipe. Swipe first up and you'll be told to PIN, then when you try PIN, it tells you to swipe. As a result, I only bother with this card when there isn't a queue and I can afford the messing around time. It's too painful otherwise.

OMG you actually using this card?

Or you just trying to up your post count :D

I can't think of any reason to use this card, unless the only card you have is free for life .

Well there is the fact it earns 33% more points/$ than the attached FFL Signature at the petrol station I've just used it at twice, so that's a reason. I have 5 other cards besides the FFL Signature + Diners, but on today's date when my statement date for the Sig/Diners is the 16th of the month, the Diners is definitely the most rewarding to me of the other 6 cards in my wallet.

Oh, I guess you don't have any AmEx? Since AmEx is $1 = 1 SQ / VS mile, whereas Citi Diners is 0.8 SQ miles.

I have two thanks, Qantas Disco + Velocity Escape, both of which direct earn at rates of 1:1 until next April, then 3:4. But they're both 44 interest free day cards. My Diners earns at the same 1:1 rate for Velocity, but it's a 55 day card whose statement date just rolled over yesterday, so I'm actually going to realise that full 55 days this time around as opposed to something more like only ~30 days for my Amex cards. Couple that with the fact I will wait for the next 15% bonus to convert offer before I actually convert them and the Diners rate bumps up to 23:20 which is better than Amex even before they devalue their points earn rate next April.

I wasn't expecting anyone to be using free AmEx cards.
I'm the opposite. I don't expect anyone to actually pay for a card. The very idea fills me with horror. None of my cards have ever cost me a cent/point.

110% agree. Pay extra money to have another way to pay money? No thanks. I have a number of fee free and fee-free for life cards which get me international travel insurance (and other insurances), a couple of free lounge visits (with reasonable co-pays if needed thereafter), Hilton Gold status and points in a range of programs.

Paying annual fees for a card generally only enhances the points earning, and I'm not going to pay extra money and shuffle a deck of cards to maximise point earn when time and again they are unilaterally devalued and becoming more difficult to redeem. The money I save each year in annual fees and more restrained spending (because I'm not tempted to think "hey if I buy this, I'll earn double points") can go towards paying for tickets without the restrictions and inflexibility of award seats.

The Diners card enables me to earn higher points, but I'm not paying for the privilege. I suspect over time that will go away - as the payment middlemen all become disintermediated through technology - but I'll take it while I can get it.

Does anyone know if the Linked Diners Card (with Signature Card) is eligible for Citibank Dining?
The FAQ simply states "Pay for your meal with your Citi card." so I presume that if the restaurant accepts Diners, it would work.

There's not really much point (haha) in this as restaurants earn 2ppd on Signature anyway, I was just curious.

I don't think it matters, cos you just tell the restaurant about the deal when you sit down, and that's it. You just pay with whatever you like in the end a lot of times (I have used this offer a few times and end up paying with other cards) as everything would have forgotten about it in the end.

Has anyone extensively used the diners whilst traveling overseas?
I have been told by my sup card holders that its not widely accepted in south korea and singapore.

I just went to Singapore in Oct, pretty useless.

My friend went to south Korea in Sep, and it was accepted everywhere including smaller shops (bar those smaller shops who just throw hissy fit when you take out any type of plastic). I really mean everywhere. She hardly used Visa / MC. It is apparently linked to the local BC card network.

I'll be heading to hawaii at the end of the month and will report back!
