Hi.

I'm a pretty easy going guy. I like simple things. My family, my friends, dining out, fine wine etc....

In the past few days, I have been contacted by a couple of restaurants about some bookings made with reference to myself. (Noma & Vue de Monde)

This is REALLY annoying to me as I have NOT been asked to make such bookings.

I am happy to arrange things for people I actually know. That will never be a problem.

Please do not use my name when trying to secure a booking though. There are many, many AFF members whom I have been more than happy to arrange a booking for. Even at last minute at top restaurants.

Here's the thing..... Do you REALLY think I phone the restaurant when I want to dine out? Of course not!! I call or text the owner/chef/manager directly.

This type of thing truthfully angers me, as in most instances I would be happy to assist. I HATE people taking advantage, or trying to take advantage of me, or my good will.

I think that I am more than generous and I'm totally OK with trying to help. Please do not ruin things for others.

This is the exact reason I quit this forum last year. If I do it again it will be final!!

Boss

Some people just need go into a room of mirrors and have a good hard look at themselves.

That's (less than ideal)

Now since you are such an awesome guy: I'm going to be in London on 21 May. Really looking for suggestions for dinner for 4 people. Suggestions?

;)

Bound to happen though, if you do know people and people know that you know people

Sometimes it's better to keep a low profile and things quiet....

Yeah.... I know what you mean.

I guess I have to remind myself that you really can't trust everyone. Even though I'd prefer to.... At least initially.

That's most unfortunate that people would do that.

I certainly hope that this sort of thing stops, as I'd hate to see you go leave....

Wow, this takes name dropping to a new level.

People amaze me more every day.

bossreggie contacted the Mods before posting this and without reference to the others, he has my complete support.

Personally, without the aid of my Moderator hat, I'd like to name and shame - but I know that bossreggie would prefer not to do that.

I hope you advised the restauranteurs that the people didn't have your okay and they cancelled the booking or gave them the worst table. Don't get mad, get even.

This is a valuable lesson that there are people in our community that don't have the moral and ethical standards that most of us would expect.

People should be just name dropping my name. I can get you good seats at Sizzler... Lol

Thanks mate. I was looking for a good table there as well. Feel free to name drop me if you ever need anything that I can help with, I promise I won't be upset especially if all it is is dropping a name for a little personal gain at no expense to me.

This is one of those occasions when being a mod has it's advantages ........you get to see & therefore avoid the bad apples!

People turning up for lunch without paying & now booking under another's name......shame, shame, shame!

If you want to name drop ring the person before hand and say Hey I am going to this Restaurant or what ever hey can you give me a hand...

But I would be very annoyed if this happened to me, I was name dropped a few month's ago and the person who did it didn't know me so I made sure I mentioned to the person that I really don't know this person and they got no special treatment.

The person rang our call centre.

No probs munitalP... :)

In all seriousness though, its a bit rough and unfortunately goes to show that you just can't trust everyone anymore.

Likewise, if anyone needs priority service at the Kebab shop down the road from my work, name drop away.

There could be some extra cheese in it for you.

How could you enjoy a meal after doing that? Firstly, it's embarrassing that you feel you have to use someone else's name to get a reservation - and secondly, wouldn't you feel guilty??

Make your own friends/contacts....

I've slept on this and really the whole thing is just pathetic. If you can't do something off you're own back, what's the point. There are probably dozens of restaurants with celebrity chefs that I could never get into, but then there are dozens of restaurants that I can get into to, that I will enjoy just as much and the enjoyment of eating out is the company that you keep not the name on the door. Case in point dinner last night in Surry Hills with just an amazing group of people.

:(
Most of the time I think of us with rose-tinted spectacles as a happy little community of like-minded individuals having a chat.
Then every so often some cough ruins that illusion.
Sorry to hear of this Boss. Hope the individual concerned is sorry too.
