I think this is kinda cool. From November, Eurowings Discover will launch seasonal direct flights from Frankfurt to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), which is located near Nelspruit and the gateway to South Africa's Kruger National Park.

Interesting to see that the local airport says that it can take up to B747 aircraft. I also see that there is a short stopover at Windhoek Airport. I guess that is because Namibia has been a favourite African destination for Germans for many years so they can ensure that they get as full a load as possible on these flights.

Makes perfect sense - Eurowings Discover was already flying Frankfurt-Windhoek and the plane would sit on the ground in WDH during the day anyway as it's overnight in both directions. So might as well add another destination and shore up loads on that long-haul flight.

There is a fair bit of traffic between Germany and Namibia, and Eurowings has been the only direct option since Air Namibia went kaputt.

Our friends in Germany showed us some of their photos of their trip to Namibia. it looked like a great trip.

I see the Eurowings website is listing these flights as "nonstop". They are direct, but not non-stop.

It's a shame you can't book a seat from MQP-WDH.

So, Eurowings… overnight, international LCC yeah?
Think I’d stick with a different airline to JNB or CPT and then the Airlink connection, if I ever needed to get to MQP.

Yeah...

I've flown them before on a long-haul overnight flight (CGN-BKK, from memory). They were OK, and the price was good. I'd rate them higher than Scoot etc.

I would use them on this route if I needed a cheap one-way ticket from South Africa to Europe or vice versa, especially if I was visiting Kruger anyway.

A330 with lie flat beds in J. Don’t know a lot about the rest of their product though

That is interesting.
I wonder if they call it ‘mini-first class’ for an LCC product? 🤣
Good luck to them with the additional connection to Kruger.
