Disappointing in flight flexi meal

try being a gluten free vegetarian

Ouch :( that sounds like no fun at all. I wonder if SPMLs will ever be available on VA? I know they can be booked for long haul and it's encouraging to note that a "regular" vegetarian option is available on the standard menu, but GF would be something of a challenge..

You think the flexi meal experience is bad for yourself, try being a gluten free vegetarian and see how hungry you end up going home then...

TG

What would be good food for a gluten free vegetarian?

So far, all I can think of is salad, but most people would expect more for a J meal?

[/pleading ignorance]

on Friday, I had the flexi snack/meal, a wrap, a healthy bar and a beer. Only offered blonde or a light - poor, but the wrap, I commented to the guy sitting next to me @nlagalle that it was the best wrap i had ever had - ever... it was nice.

GF pastas, breads etc all exist, but a lot of it is *awful*. Risottos can work. It's possible to do interesting things with salad, just doesn't happen very often.

Better than those chicken seizure wraps you often ate before they ceased to "ex-cist"? :p

Seriously, what was on it?

And why are wraps so popular for flexi meals? Sure, I'll concede I'd probably on average rather have a wrap rather than a bread sandwich...

Dan, you are awesome :) I didn't think anyone had picked up on the Chicken Seizure thing :)

It had meat and other stuff. The other stuff complimented the meat very well

Maybe Nick will fill us in on the contents if he can remember!

Oh, and FWIW, bring back the Chicken Ceasar wraps - they rocked (except for the people who had seizures!)

Pastas might be interesting, but you know that most airlines / caterers are certainly not trying.

Risotto has a better pay off, but the risk is higher (stuff up risotto and its not even worth using for compost; the main challenge is texture).

Also, I should correct myself because above I was alluding to J meals but this thread is talking about Y flexi meals. The budget constrains now make this GFV challenge more difficult...

The new roast beef and caramelised onion (with dijon mustard) flexi wrap is beautiful.

Not very satisfying for dinner though, OK for lunch.

Breakfast time I would like a bit more variety and dinner time I definitely want a hot meal.

Virgin are still trying to get better, but they are starting to get on my nerves, prices have increased from what they used to be and at the moment were not getting any more service than we have in the past.

I book flexi's mainly to cover myself for changes in travel plans, however the appeal of full service does help. Starting to reconsider now, I should be flying enough with work and with the wife to requalify for gold so the appeal of SC's is losing value. Taking the hit of cancellation or change fees might also be less in the long term. Might be the end of the line for me with the $80 cold flavourless sandwiches and wraps.

I fight hard to stay loyal to virgin as our company policy states that we should be using qantas as much as we can, i'm not getting a whole lot in return for my efforts.

The ff program has had excellent improvements but i think it's time to improve the most important part of the whole travel business...the actual travel!!!!!

The hot offerings seem to have been wound back on the buy on board menu. This suggests to me there is some sort of delivery issue with hot food. One would hope it is something they are trying to rectify.
