Anyone know if you need to book on DL codes to get this? Are bookings on VA codes from the VA website eligible?
Also if anyone knows what the cost was for a SYD-LAX flight that would be handy :-)

Sometimes I wonder how members here can give so many conflicting answers and comments to a simple piece of information. I recently returned from the US where i flew a number of DL legs. I went to the Delta site - which is extremely easy to use and very comprehensive - booked a Y ticket from LAX to JFK, got a great price of US$200 coz I was able to plan and book well before my flight date (true not everybody has the option to do this), in the next screen chose my EC seat, got the Plat 50% discount so paid an extra $37, and enjoyed a more comfortable, space plus breakfast and, for a US flight, some pretty good service. Just follow the correct procedure and it's easy.

DaleS, do you think I was over charged for my EC upgrades? I'm flying SYD-LAX tomorrow.

Sorry for the slow reply avid as your'e probably in the air now but for SYD-LAX that looks right. Hopefully you can the extra space works for you on such a long flight. Enjoy.

My curiosity got the better of me so I did a dummy booking and entered my VA plat no. I got $101 each way so the original info provided by VFF is correct as a Plat I get a 50% discount. As a SG you should have got a 25% discount but if you didn't enter your VFF number when you chose your seat and booked you weren't ripped off - you just didn't get your entitlement.

I've just checked in with Delta, lovely desk lady said I didn't get my SG 25% discount, and to try and make a claim, but she didn't think I would be lucky! I've got x 3 delta flights today, SYS-LAX, LAX-MPS, MPS-GRB.
Long day ahead!

Using DL mobile app . VA FF number is in PNR.

VA WP

EC price is $AUD17 (SLC-SEA)
I don't think this is the 50% discounted price because when I check under travelling companions name (same PNR) and no FF status the price is the same.

do I have to ring up to get the discount

Same PNR means they will also get the discounted price as you. So Yes you have been given the 50% discount.

I also did a test booking and it charged $44.50 for LAX/JFK which is 50% of the full amount. These seats seem like the Main Cabin Select on Virgin America but significantly cheaper at least for the day i looked. For oct 2015, DL was $205 + 44.50 for Economy comfort. VX was $499. from memory VX does include inflight meal, but that isn't going to make up for the difference. I flew VX last tim when in USA and was impressed. Does anyone know how DL compare?

bumping this one...anyone know how Delta EC & Virgin America Main Cabin select compare?

VX is like VA row 3 on steroi_s. You have the barrier behind first class, a reasonably comfortable seat and lots of legroom plus you have storage and a video screen in front of you with a large choice of programs and the ability to order from the menu and have it delivered to your seat. On DL you're in a seat with slightly more legroom and you get a meal and a video in the armrest and that's it. However flying LAX-JFK on DL you do get a larger twin aisle plane. DL's lounge is bigger and more comfortable than the quirky VX lounge and as per most US flights both are pretty atrocious at boarding with people everywhere. If you book ahead you can get a pretty cheap DL fare then get your 50% off for the EC upgrade. VX is always more expensive but also can be ok if booked far enough ahead. Both choices are better than a regular Y seat for the 5+ hours you are on the plane.
