Discounts for Buying a New Sony Phone?

Don't forget that JP Xperia are also different to HK Xperia and TW Xperia, so where you get the Xperia 1VI from also matters heaps. (I had to do a lot of reading but gf has now gotten a red 1 VI after her 1 II started dying and support would be dropped too).
Yeah, the HK/TW version has better 5G band compatibility within Australia, specifically because the JP version is missing band n7 and n26, and likely some CA combos involving those. I still ended up getting the JP version because it ended up being cheaper back when the Yen was weak + tax free, plus it supports Osaifu-Keitai so I've got my Suica card working great in Google Pay.

As for getting the Xperia 1 VI to work, root/bootloader unlock is not required. At least the JP and TW versions are known to work out of the box on VoLTE on all 3 major Australian networks. Beware that there's at least one user who reports it doesn't work for them on Boost (Telstra MVNO).

With that said, I still recommend not buying an Xperia if you're not into phone tinkering. For instance, the call waiting/barring/redirect settings don't work in the Phone app on Telstra for some reason, and as mentioned before it's not possible to confirm E000 functionality (but it more than likely works)
