I was thinking of trying a one way flight from Tokyo to Perth, do you think these tricks could cut it down much??? I think i found on the Jetstar Japan site i could get this for about $270 anyway...

--- EDITED --- Got some flights with great base fare, but cant wrangle ANYTHING to cut the fat... ;'(
Also, probably on incorrect thread, but do qantas alliance partners award QFF points, or do you earn some other form of points which are then converted back into QFF points?

Cheers.

Thanks. Will look into that.
Please let me know if I'm revealing too much, but I got base fares of 130 each way. As you could imagine, if you could drop the fat there, it'd make for an outstanding fare...

No that's fine. There shouldn't be too much issue posting the fare breakdown from ITA - maybe remove the origin/destination and PM them to me instead. There's no real issue with posting the question you want answered.

Tried to post an unedited version, but no luck (as I'm a new member).

Will PM you an edited version & and unedited version. ;-)

Food for thought. Your 3x needs to abide by the rules below.

[h=2]Combinability[/h] APPLICABLE ADD-ON CONSTRUCTION IS ADDRESSED IN
MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS - CATEGORY 23.
END-ON-END
END-ON-END COMBINATIONS PERMITTED. VALIDATE ALL FARE
COMPONENTS. SIDE TRIPS PERMITTED.
PROVIDED -
COMBINATIONS ARE FOR CARRIER UA/CM WITHIN AREA 1
COMBINATIONS ARE FOR CARRIER UA WITHIN AREA 3
COMBINATIONS ARE FOR CARRIER UA/LH/LX/OS/AC/SN
PUBLISHED FOR TRAVEL VIA THE ATLANTIC.

Probably only realistic thing there is to find a fare in Area 1 (see link at beginning) that dumps it. Also note the rules with open jaws as their idea is a bit different to most.

Thanks Paul (?)
I am having a few issues digesting the rules in post #49, but will try and work it out and do some more searches.
- I made the mistake of googling part of post 49 and got onto KVS, but that is hurting my head now too. LOL

You can click on the fare rules from the results you get in ITA. A lot of otherwise good candidate fares seem to have restrictions that don't work. I'm still new at this myself so hoping to learn a thing or two as well.

Aaaah! - You're a champ!
Thanks for that.
Will get back to you with how I go on my searches. ;-D

FWIW, I have found better luck looking at return flights South-East Asia to Europe (particularly open-jaws). I have even found some success finding open jaw fares from South-East Asia to Europe and back to Aus. However the flights originating here end up with very high base fares.

Is this Etihad? I found quite a lot of flights before and returning to Australia was like $100 more than returning to SEA. Wonder if you found anything on *A or One world.

I read somewhere that FD'ing doesn't work with some carriers. Singapore airline being among them.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do you book them?
