Discussion on Cats, Moggies and Felines in general [with Pictures]

This is Louis. I have no idea as still learning about cats, but I think he is a "Bi-colour Ragdoll"? Here he is helping me unload the dishwasher and put things away.

We weighed him today - 4.3 kg, still in his fifth month. Apparently these buggers can exceed 10kg when fully grown? :O We feed him a natural or raw diet. I swear my wife pays more attention to feeding him than me. He is not food-obsessed - unlike dogs like labradors etc that I have had previously. He just seems to eat when he is actually hungry. His favorite sport is hunting insects. Being winter these are not plentiful, but during walks on the lawn he finds many. Can't wait till summer when we get the odd pesky fly - he will annihilate them.

I have read that rag dolls are the most "dog-like" breed of cats. Louis gets excited when we return home, and waits at the door for us. I expect that in a pet, being used to dogs, but apparently this is not the norm for felines. He is quite vocal when he wants something, like going for a walk outside.

And in this chapter of my life I am enjoying learning new things, like what is "kitty litter" and how to manage it So much cleaner a task than dealing with confined dogs!!
Louis is absolutely drop dead gorgeous and he sounds delightful. Looking forward to hearing and seeing many of his exploits in this thread.

Welcome! I also only found this forum recently, it's addictive looking at what cats get up to. I'm constantly amazed at cats imagination...what is going through their mind as they stalk a sock!
Re insect catcher, one of ours catches mosquitoes in flight, chomp, gone.

Louis is entering a phase (yet another??!!) in his so-far short life, where he is getting into nooks and crannies previously beyond him. Being an indoor cat, we occasionally worry if we cannot find him inside. I suspect he enjoys our fret :/ This was his new hideaway today!

I am every day learning to marvel at cats. Their sheer skill and finesse. Imagine a 5mth old puppy getting into that basket - there would have been knocked-over lamps and broken windows, and....

The boy misbehaving as usual, :) We were thinking of getting another one, not now, that would be too much to cope with.350C479D-A133-421C-9008-8474B6C8D249.jpeg

Work on the run is continuing, hopefully he can get into the annex in a couple of days, he may be naughty, but we love him to bits!

At risk of further negative comment, I opine that cats only run riot when the humans accomodate the behaviour.
They are quite intelligent and quickly learn diligently but firmly applied house rules… just sayin….

I think you are right, however he is very inquisitive, he also had a lot of attention over the last few days as my sister was here, when he got up onto the chest of drawers we were outside, he is also still just a kitten. We have talked a lot about his behaviour, we knew what could possibly happen because of the breed, we are prepared to tolerate this, he has given us so much joy over the last four weeks and I'm sure will continue to do so. :)

Update on run, it's had a refurbishment and I have made a new walkway between them. He will get another run on the ground as well, but it all takes time. So far he has been very wary, maybe it's the smell of drying paint that has put him off.
There are plans to put another 'house' in the middle as well.0EF3D004-C9CD-4C43-B7A3-12DAA47EC9DA.jpegF0FFD392-C474-4C96-A0F3-C938843A2CFB.jpegC1386328-5903-42D3-AACF-2F016A6740C9.jpegA6B88AC4-8B34-415A-8DBA-F980856A280E.jpeg4EBE93D1-8F9A-4267-AE5E-215C3C2E256E.jpeg

I was going to suggest that you placed a shade/hide halfway along the run so there was a shelter - but I doubt that cat fears much :)

A couple more for those that are interested. :) The annex has multi levels, behind the glass gets nice and warm, and using an old cat flap and an even older loud speaker box, it doesn't get windy in there. The glass is removed for the photo, it's just an old window from the shop at the tip.The mesh comes out in one piece for easy access. It still has to be furnished to a suitable level.
When we had the others, a cage used to go up on the roof and across to the other
shed, but it was hard to keep leaves out, so he won't be getting that.

The ramps were for our old arthritic cats so they didn't have jump. Outside the laundry I have replaced the old cable spool, again our other cats loved it up there.

Another photo just to show just how cute he is!

I don't think I would be far off the mark if I said you were besotted by him. ;)

No photo today, as I failed to obtain one. But yet another day of our beautiful boy Louis amusing us...

My wife insists on giving him turkey necks to chew on. Apparently great for moggie dental hygiene. I am not opposed to this, but I am extremely squeamish. I have a very special terror of chicken necks, to the extent that I almost feint if I accidentally aquire a whole chook that still has that obscene part contained within the packaging. Just letting my eyes stray for a millisecond in a supermarket and them resting on a package of such brings extreme nausea.

But my wife rules (as wives should), so one day when she proudly brought home a pack of turkeys necks, and asked me to "slice them up", I mustered all my internal manly strength, and tackled the job. The first thing that I discovered is that a turkey neck is very tough. Slicing them with my eyes closed did not work. So I mustered even more manly courage, and managed to dismember them using an axe. Alas, with my eyes still closed, I also dismembered some of the retaining wall wood structure that I chose to do this on. And this is a rental :(

But, somehow, I managed to get them into pieces appropriate to his youthful size, and away into neat snaplock bags they went into the freezer. (Now I cannot use the freezer, for fear of seeing them)

Anyway, Louis has just started to get interested in them. As he is an indoor cat, it was "decided" by family that the best place to give these to him was in our garage, so as not to soil carpets etc. The fact that my main study/office is also in that garage was not something my family appears to have deemed significant.

Today, as I worked merrily at my computer, my wife came in with the cat and a chunk of obscene turkey neck. I accepted the fact that this was really happening, so I then endured the sound of him merrily crunching at it as I tried to keep my eyes glued to my computer monitor.

After about half an hour, I noticed that the sound had changed. I could just hear scratching noises. I looked around and realized that Louis was no longer hacking at the neck. Now, for a reason only a cat could know, he had decided to get my gym towell, and was merrily moving it around, clawing it into a ball. He does like to scratch things sometimes, but I thought my gym towell was not right. So I took it from him. As I lifted it up, it slowly unravelled, until just at the end I heard the wet thud, and saw the turkey neck fall free.

Yes, I almost feinted again.

After I fled the scene, and spoke to my wife, we ended up in stitches laughing. Picturing me, arriving at the gym, and finding my towell somewhat enravelled, and shaking it amongst the princesses there.... :)

Have not had the time to yet go back into threads. So your lion is called Max? I think he is truly magnificent. Probably what I would have chosen, but I am outnumbered in my family. What is his specific breed? Clearly something not far removed from the wild. Magnificent.

He is a Bengal, originally a cross between an Egyptian Mau and an Asian Leopard cat.
