Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm looking at getting enough SC's to retain QF gold ex Tokyo (potentially needing about 150 SC) ideally leaving 25 October return to Europe (planning to head to Bucharest or nearby) getting back in late November perhaps 26/27th. I'm happy to look at nearby departure destinations if that works also. Would consider J if the price is reasonable if not Y will have to suffice. I found some good deals with Qatar but alas O class will not earn QF SC + points. Not sure what other gems there might be with AY, CX or JL?

Not related to flying to Europe, but I believe there is some excellent SC value to be found by flying JAL dom J.

If already in Japan, look at JAL dom F.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I've taken advantage of AA domestic fares but had no idea that JAL offered domestic J value. I can't seem to see availability on the JAL website at all though. A quick search has showed me paid upgrades were available on JAL in the past, is this still the case?

I'll still be heading to Europe regardless, just looking for some status wins on the trip and to retain Gold. The reason I am stuck in Tokyo is because of some cheap Jetstar plus bundle flights I booked a while back.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Hi All

Living in Bali for a while and commuting back to Adelaide a lot (every 2 weeks at least). Flight time is not super important to me so I thought I should make the most of the travelling and try my best to gain SC's. I am aiming to boost Qantas points. Any suggestions of some routes to take

There are some outstanding fares for business to CGK from ADL. If you play with the flight routing you can get 330 SCs for just over 2k. gotta be on QF41 out of syd and QF42 on the return.

Thanks for that - What site do you use for playing with the routing. I keep getting an error through the Qantas website (I am a novice at this)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I use the qantas website, it's the only one that will let you see the end calculation of the SCs.
But it does take time to go back and forth.

- Step 1, Login to your frequent flyer

- Step 2, go here, find Jakarta in the destinations. (grr, can't post links on this site yet, just use the regular booking on the front page)
NOTE: ~ Valid for departure from Australia on QF41 on Wednesday and Friday with a return flight from Jakarta on QF42 on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday only.

- Step 3, fill in the flight details and select "flexible with dates". this will bring up the matrix of fares.

- Step 4, play around with the routing going back and forth to see the status credits, some of the sale fares will put you in flex business on the ADL<->SYD leg, for an extra 10SCs on the booking :)

should give you a total of 330 SCs on some of them.

I did similar from Canberra. Then i got my business 717 flight canceled and moved to turboprop economy CAN->SYD, about to have a fight with them over the missing SCs

Try Europe with UL via CMB. Look at your favorite load reporting website and bid for an upgrade to I class on one or more of the longish sectors.

Happy wandering

Qantas have some good value fares coming up between SIN & PER (starting up again on June 26), if you don't mind flying on a 737. You could use 3K from Bali to Singapore.

I would've thought JQ's direct flight would be the best value. One way fares for well under $200 and the bundle is only $42 which gets you 40 SCs and at least 3,900 points.

That's pretty good for direct flights, although the SCs work out at about the same $6.40 per 1 SC as the CGK-ADL option in Qantas J class. And you don't have to fly jetstar :) although you do need to get to CGK

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I'm taking an informal poll on a possible status run and would welcome your view.

I'm PS and have a US trip coming up after which I'll be 220 SC short of SG. I can fit the run into a 12 hour window. PHX-DFW-MSP-PHX. If my maths is correct that's 270 SC in AA F. It's ~AUD960 which I make 3.56/SC.

Here's some things I'm thinking about but feel free to add other views:
- This would get me to SG 4 mths into my year. In other words, 20 mths benefit.
- I have paid QP which I understand would be suspended while SG. A 2yr QP renewal is AUD925 so I'm only down AUD35.
- Some increase in upgrade lottery chances, but still negligible benefit I suspect.
- Extra baggage when I have the FO & SO travelling with me
- Some added lounge/OW benefits for a possible Japan trip next year.
- Never done a status run before / novelty value.
- Last leg gets into PHX at 12:38 and I have a flight PHX-SLC at 1655. AA reports 8% of flights >30mins later. Am I tempting fate?n

I'm inclined to do it, but what do you think?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

If you were already going to pay for QP the next two years. Then yes, I would do it.

What time of year is it and would it be adversely affected by bad weather, such as snow storms? When things go wrong in USA, they go wrong bad. If you miss your connections, are there multiple flights timetabled to allow connections still?

Also, would recommend not checking luggage on such a trip. Try to leave it in PHX, either at hotel or a luggage storage service.

Novelty value is great: I did my first run a couple years ago in States after much research here and some suggestions by long term members, and I really enjoyed it.

This kind of thing can happen. You are still entitled to the business class status credits. If you haven't already done so, request an "original routing credit" by emailing [email protected] and attaching a copy of your original ticket and new boarding pass. :)

It's next month so snow isn't an issue. Luggage will be left in Phoenix along with the FO & SO. The FO doesn't understand why I'd want to spend overnight on a plane while she's lounging in a hotel.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks to all on this thread, I did a HNL-DFW-MIA-SJU return a few years ago for about $1K but they have doubled in price now. Looking to do either a run out of HNL or LAX/LAS in about March next year but can be flexible on those dates. Would welcome any ideas and I will strt researching some of the above routes.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I posted some spreadsheets in the other thread about two weeks ago. They were runs out of both LAX and LAS. Nothing came in below AUD3/SC but they were for July this year during the U.S. Summer. But the might give you some ideas about which routes to search for 2016.

Yes I saw them thanks and will go through the sheets, thanks again
