It is impossible to go BKK-KUL-MNL-KUL-BKK same day. May be different if you are going to LHR.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Thanks for all the replies.
Dad only has 200SC as they mostly burn points on F and J but likes the F lounges when only in J, and some of the other perks.

I found similar for around 1500 and figure MH is the best bet. At this point it makes sense to hold off another few months (travelling mar-may) and when he's back book a plat MH run which will last for 2 years. Much better value, even though it's basically burning money. It's their money I guess...

Doing a route in one day is different to doing a same day turnaround.

I read miniyazz's post as not having to overnight in MNL - i.e. transit is possible. They went on to overnight in KUL, so they were not saying it was a one day itinerary.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

I regularly do two travels a month. My single segments usually include a PER-MEL, PER-BRIS, PER-SYD, PER-DRW, all returns however I also do a few PER-KAT, PER-GET for the cheap seats with simple SC's just to get an extra leg in. Theres some pretty decent oneway rewards flights for the return leg if you pay for a one way segment then use the points earned and a few extra(not many) to reward flight it home.

I don't even think you could do it that. Certainly when I looked for my trip I couldn't on the z class fares.

Yes that's right, sorry if I wasn't clear. Same day turnaround is possible (and advised, to spend as little time at MNL airport as possible) but with MH it's not possible to do the entire return trip in one day. The flight from BKK-KUL is about 2hrs and from KUL-MNL is more like 4hrs so while technically possible to do the whole return trip in a single day you'd have to be very lucky with flights and have no checked luggage to make the connections and the connecting time is too close for the airline to offer it as a single booking. You'd do BKK 06.35-KUL 10.05, KUL 12.45-MNL 16.30, MNL 17.20-KUL 21.15, KUL 22.15-BKK 23.20 (all on MH).

If you want to stay in the airport, a better way is to catch an evening flight from BKK-KUL, stay the night in the Satellite MH lounge at KUL, catch the morning flight to MNL which gets in at 12.20, fly out of MNL at 15.05 and catch the late flight back from KUL-BKK (or stay overnight at KUL again). This can be repeated but each return trip will take 2 days.

You may also start getting funny looks from the KUL lounge staff, speaking as someone who stayed there two nights in a row last year for a similar reason.

My credit card statement says that it is THB6600 for each direction (for 13200 total) booked on the MH website.

You can't do a same day turnaround to MNL. I stayed at the Hotel Belmont at resorts world - mostly because it is super close, cheap for a 5 star and a casino at least gives you something to do / walk around.

.

Thank you for your feedback.

Best I can find is 9250THB each way.

I do also note, as someone else said, I can see same day turn around on google flights but cannot see it on MH site.

I will try to wait for a sale as I'm not flying til the last week in August.

So, it would be cheaper to book 2 one way flights SYD-AKL and AKL-SYD than SYD-AKL return?

EDIT: OHHH looks like CHC-x-SYD is also cheaper to book from NZ site, NZ$479 for 120SC is great value

I certainly was unable to book a same day turnaround despite whatever the flight schedule says. Check some other destinations too.

JessicaTAM, shouldn't some of these posts be in the other status run thread?
From what I can see, recent posts relate to QF SRs. I might have missed something, though.

Easiest thing to do is hit the report button (little triangle icon in the grey bar at the bottom each post) and a moderator can have a look.

when searching I get the message that the return needs to be another day than the departure

I have sent a copy of NZ_flyer's post (above) to that thread. There has been subsequent discussion of that fare here, so wanted to leave the original post.

Did send downloadingdata's post there as well: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....gram/best-status-run-options-quick-35258.html

The CX lounge in BKK is MUCH better than the Louis tavern lounge that MH direct you to. Cook to order noodle bar and Tattinger champagne.
Only if you like noodles and champagne.

I was in there last night. Boring. The CIP lounge oppozite G2 is quite nice. Spaghetti carbonara, yellow noodles with chicken, various soups, pastries, ice cream and self serve alcohol.
