Does anyone have any good runs out of SFO? I'm there for a weekend between two weeks of work and need 605 SC's to get to WP. Any suggestions?

A YVR-PTY run should do the trick.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Timing is tough over a weekend.

LAX / PTY can be cheaper.

Yes and to be more difficult I need to start in SFO and only do day runs! Happy to do one on Sat and then another on Sun, but I already have accommodation paid for by work in San Fran over the weekend.

... and taking the early flight from YVR to LAX is a nightmare, that is not an elite flyer friendly airport ...

I think DFW-CLT-MIA will credit as a single flight (AA2565).

I didn't even look at the flight numbers but you're probably right. Presumably it's possible to chose a different flight number on one of those legs.

Danger because it's a different calendar day could they reconsider ?

It's the same day. First leg arrives 10:45am and second leg leaves at 11:45am

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

sorry I was looking at the leg before. Would the price change much if you stayed a night ?

As Danger pointed out, there were options for the flight in question, so instead of the same flight number all the way through you select the next flight CLT-MIA. Staying overnight doesn't necessarily bump the price, it depends on flight combos being offered. Sometimes there'll be an option for a late flight in and a flight out the next day for the same price.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Yes. Mine was a two sector trip. The bonus SC credited around 48 hours after the first segment. The bonus SC for the second segment are you to credit, but there was a weekend... so I'll give it another day or so.

Thanks heaps. The original SCs have been credited already . Interestingly three of four sectors were with the same crew. I got a nice bottle of wine as a gift. Cara was the most amazing FA.

Hi,

Looking for advice on a QF Gold status run and need a minimum of 320 points by end of August. As this is self funded :( am also challenged with budget so looking for most economical way to achieve this. Am ok for US bound flights if that opens up options.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe.

Welcome to AFF :D

First things first - where do you live/what is your home airport?

Potentially with the 50SC loyalty bonus you only need 270 more. However, even with the sub-$1000 sale fares in August to position yourself at LAX there is not great value in the US. Under $4 per SC on AA is doing well these days. For example MEL-LAX sale $989 (90 SC) plus 'F' LAX-DFW-ORD another $980 return nets 330 SC total. I'm sure others can do better with itineraries in Asia.

If you can position to HKG using points or a cheap fare, there is a 320SC run for ~AUD1150 (~AUD3.6/SC). HKG-KUL on CX codeshare on KA or MH and KUL-CMB on UL. Can be done without staying overnight in CMB. Can be booked on Expedia.hk.

No need to go as far as the U.S. If you have a few days to spare and can get yourself to Malaysia, do a few $153 business class return trips from K.L. to Langkawi. Fast and cheap SCs at $1.91 per SC.
