one way PER-ADL (~$190) and points home?

Geraldton is another possibility - about the same price but would be much quicker. Assuming no delays the return trip can be done in 2.5 hours.

Thanks for both those suggestions! - still spending ~$200 one way to get the 10 SC .

Are there any non flight offers just to get these 10 SC? Not sure if this is the right thread...

Also have a few QF flights booked between now and then but alas they are work trips and can’t be upgraded (there’s no business class)- so earning 15 SC each time - which leaves me 10 SC short...

ANZ are serving up 75SC on their black FF Visa, but if I'm not mistaken it requires you to book and fly with Qantas to unlock the SC - so that's not much help.

Where are you going for business? Perhaps we can find a cheaper option from one of your destinations if you have a free half-day there.

Thanks! Yes have an ANZ card already- it’s a good deal and no annual card fee for first year

Broome...so cheapest flight anywhere is over $200 one way. Problem is work books the discount fares (earning 15 SC instead of 30 each way), so accumulating SC is now harder.

I fly just over 20 times year- mostly domestic, with about 4 international flights each year- every flight is booked with qantas, with a QF flight number, yet maintaining gold is now no longer possible if I rely on my flights alone. It just doesn’t make sense how qantas do this. Status tiers used to look after people who flew a lot: a way of looking after those that fly a lot versus those who accumulate a lot of FF points but don’t necessarily fly much. Now status tiers don’t even look after those that fly a lot. And when you continue to fly a reasonable amount, it makes travelling even more painful when you drop a status tier...

It doesn’t seem right

Are you able to add a comfort seat to one of your bookings? I have never done this myself so I can't give you the good oil on how and $. But, as I understand it, you ring up QF and ask for the price of a comfort seat; if they can add it to your booking (given that it was originally booked by someone other than you, this may not be possible), you get the extra SCs but only pay the fare, not the taxes. It may work out more economical for you.

Good luck.

BA domestic in J can be ok, usually each way for around £100. Not the best earner, but does help.

Malta, marrakech, catania are examples of longer flights from LGW that are often on sale.

Qatar has standout business fares to Australia and Asia frequently from Stockholm, Amsterdam, Oslo and some other places (eg £1300 return in J).

BA also have life time Gold (owe) available if you're a mega flyer!

Hi, so I found a £100 each way BA fare London to Naples in J - 60SC each way - looks like the plane turns around in an hour - it might be possible to do it in a day, but an overnight would not phase me. When I went to book it, the return leg changed to £400 ... obviously the BA system didn't like the idea of £100 each way. If I clear cookies/or use my VPN to go in from different IP addresses I imagine I will be able to fool the system into letting me book 2 x one way tickets. I should definitely get the 1st leg OK, however I will need to give BA my name etc for the return ... just a bit worried that I will have a good fare down and then a v expensive one home. Has anyone encountered this issue? Any suggesitons/cautions?

Yes, this is common from what I've seen. I am no expert but I believe with some of these cheaper J fares there are some minimum stay requirements...well that was the case on the latest flash sale this month in that there was a 2 night minimum stay required precluding turnarounds. Its rare to get cheap same day returns particularly ex LGW. LUX, BIO and CPH price ok for day trips.

I have never played too much ex LGW but I suspect it may be difficult to avoid but less us know how you get on.

I would take a look at the BA Flyertalk thread as that is full of really useful content with some very regular BA flyer contributors.

Best way to do it is to nest 2 trips (if you want to spend that kind of money), most of the cheap J fares have a Saturday night requirement (or minimum stay).

Thanks again for the assistance. The system seemed to be driving a 14 day gap between the LGW-Naples and the Naples-LGW flights. I needed to get home from GVA for a particular trip, so I'm now coming home from GVA via Naples. Also doing a same day (hopefully) run to Naples 2 weeks before.

Its DSC time so any suggestions on somewhere to go?
I was looking at Syd-mel-chc-mel-syd over a long weekend. But i did that with bne on the way back last year so was trying to find something different this time.
Was thinking akl via mel might be ok uf u van get the A330 J flights.

Done a few syd-bne-cns-bne-syd day trips.
Syd based and hoping to get it all done in a weekend or long weekends. I got convinced that going to NZ and only seeing in and around the airport was insane and i should at least spend a day to see things from the local city.

Looking also to get 230 credits by 30th April and cheapest way to get them with the double SC Promo.
Leaving from Melbourne, ,
Many thanks :)

Hey, I'm looking for the same.. I'm not an expert but I can see Melbourne, Sydney, Christchurch, Brisbane, Melbourne for $1636 and 540 points.. that's around $3.02 per point which based upon my readings isn't too bad. Plus you'll get 50 loyalty points so that's a reasonable return... I'm interested tho on any other alternatives.

So far I've found MEL-OOL Via SYD flex 40 one way, business 80 one way, so total 120 for $997 ( with the promo would be 240 sc) , which equates to $4.15 per credit. Still trying to find something cheaper :)

I'd like to take advantage of the DSC offer but I have no firm travel plans so would like to do a mileage run to get me to Gold asap. I need 195 SCs so what do you suggest would be my best/cheapest domestic run over a weekend? Starting from Mel.

Looking for 230 status credits as well, based out of Sydney.

Thinking of booking economy SYD-CHC, and then business CHC-MEL-SYD which should get me past the 270SC for around 1k.

Looking at doing the SYD-CHC leg on the Emirates flight even though there's no DSC. I want to experience that flight before it goes away.

Only issue I'll have to spend a night in Christchurch as there isn't enough connection time for the flight to Melbourne.

For those people in Melbourne, try looking at Cairns, it will get you very close anyway and tourist routes are cheaper than business routes.

I have been looking at either MEL or DRW to CHC and anything routing through BNE only shows half the SC earn rate. Surley this must be a glitch.
Has anyone else noticed this?
