Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

By my calcs: 140 SCs on the return bits (as CR with PC).

32 + 6x 18 SCs?

Obviously not nearly as many as full revenue but for the points / dollars, at lot cheaper. Double also if you can book it during a DSC and reward seat prices are the same (if available) regardless.
Yes 140 SCs + another 50 from ticking off the loyalty bonus along the way. (The loyalty bonus came through about an hour ago.🙂)

I had been holding off hoping for a DSC offer but decided I couldn't wait any longer as my year ends 31/12.

I'm not so sure about this. There are a number of routes where you can earn status credits for less than that on a per dollar basis. For instance, I flew LAX > PDX > SEA > LAX for $550 AUD in Alaska J which earned me 160 status credits total. Similarly I booked SYD > MEL > AKL > SYD > MEL for $1150 AUD to earn 480 status credits during last year's DSC promotion.

Not sure what your points is?

Obviously there are much better SC runs around but the earlier comment was on the SC earn for CR flights as a PC member v what you'd earn on the same itinerary as revenue flights in J.

You might wangle a good muli-city booking during a NZ J Sale but anyone can book OPs itinerary and earn the same SCs for the same points / $ anytime (so long as there are CR seats and they are PC/PC+).

I would like to travel to Europe cheap with good SC and in business. What are my options pre Christmas/ post Christmas if anybody could point me in the correct direction (one direction) lol

Where specifically in Europe. Your best bet is repositioning to CGK/MNL/BKK and picking up a cheap AY or QR fare from there.

Hi Sudoer I was thinking of Warsaw, Krakow, Berlin.

Hi so booking to BKK then onwards with Finnair or QR?

Yes correct. Book either cash or points to SE Asia, then business class onwards to Europe is significantly cheaper. You're also less likely to get shafted by the Qantas partner earn charts. Just as an example below which earns 320 SC.

Look at both, plus CX (via HKG).

Search prices out of BKK, SIN, CGK (and/or DPS), MNL.

Be prepared to break the journey and stay overnight to protect yourself from delays.

Wow food for thought thank you will have some fun looking at options now!

SYD-CGK has some of the best QF Classic reward availability (which is also probably bookable from MEL via SYD - assuming that’s a MEL skyline in your avatar pic?).

Jakarta itself is a dump that’s not sinking fast enough (others will disagree) but you can overnight near the airport and pickup onward connections.

SIN and BKK are reasonably user friendly for stopovers - especially SIN.

Apparently transiting MNL has its “nuances” that I’m happy not to try - well not until I visit again (after decades).

I did a spread of Asian ports (to the above I add KL and coughet)
Both served by EK

Of course one must get to these “re-positioning” ports but the savings available are well worth the effort

F fares are almost halved
And J I saw a Finnair J return for under $4,000 (and that was flying via Helsinki to/from Lisbon)

The direct MELCGK service has usually got even better availability…
Yes, I almost mentioned that but a niggling thought in the back of my head was they weren’t flying - but that’s PER.

I noticed last week while in coughet that QR has direct flights to/from HKT (as do SU to SVO!). Again, I was going to include it in my list but recognised that it’s probably slightly harder to reposition.

We did CX J this year CGK-HKG-LHR//MAD-HKG-DPS for just under $4k (including an AMEX and Webjet cash backs!).

Would note that the Business Light fares on Finnair are classified as I, which means you should still receive Business-level SCs on routes like BKK-HEL-LHR. $3.6k is pretty good.

Noting that on Business Light, only 1 checked baggage comes free of charge for oneworld Sapphire/Emerald members (i.e. Qantas Gold or higher). Otherwise I think you pay extra.

QR lite fares also have pitfalls (No QR J lounge), but OWE still gets a lounge where available.

Which is close enough to Oslo to get a very inexpensive DONEx One World Explorer for the return?
If you are REALLY in to wandering
Fred
Any hints on how “inexpensive” the going rate is?

Ive been looking at some ex CGK options recently and appreciate you mentioning hkt. Hopefully it (and BKK) will have decent timings on the recently announced JQ flights, I couldn't see anything direct and daytime to CGK ex per, let alone on a carrier that earns SCs with QF. For some reason the costs ex DPS are much higher for the routing I'm checking.
