Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Seriously, P1 just isn't worth spending an extra cent to get. Take a look at the P1 experiences thread.

If it were me I'd spend the extra money elsewhere, you are going to do really well to get 500SC for $1k.
(How is your min QF 2700 SC?)

I actually think it's fairly impossible now to get 500SC for $1K.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Mind if I ask what they are JohnM? I've been looking and can only find sectors at 120SC

Here's a good one between two popular places: SFO-MIA. (I'm just playing around starting planning my 2015 DONEx so this AA/US Air discussion is pertinent ;).)

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Interesting, thanks for the advice! :) sadly a lot of these options rely on me being in America, I'm not scheduled to be there this anniversary year :(

i thought there were new benefits to P1!

I may take your advice and give up on the Dream as per my current options it will cost me at least 3 grand :(

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Is there anywhere you need/ want to go? And how much time are you willing to waste?

Lots of places I want to go but none yield the needed points at a reasonable cost.
Willing to waste 4 days 5 at a pinch.
Locations I like to visit: HKG, NRT/HND, SIN, ICN/GMP, BKK, CHC

Go to HKG, fly over to TPE and do TPE-KUL-MNL-KUL-TPE on MH in Z fare. Nets 320SC for ~AU$700 if I recall correctly.

Or head to BKK and do BKK-KUL-TPE-KUL-BKK on MH Z for 240SC for ~AU$650.

Probably even cheaper now with a MH sale.

If you can position yourself to coughet you can fly on to Bangkok cheaply and very indirectly with MH - HKT-KUL-HKG-KUL-BKK is possible on a single booking and can be done in a day for $280 and 260SC (orbitz). The opposite works too to net 520sc for $560 plus positioning costs.
Alternatively pay for JQ star-class with the plus bundle to position yourself to coughet - $1670 return with 240sc then add in HKT-KUL-HKG return for $280. 480SC total for less than $2k and not overly inconvenient.

HKT-KUL-HKG-KUL-BKK

Holy cough! Could've saved me a pretty penny if I wasn't so time constrained and the finance department refusing to sanction anything MH related.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

If you're thinking of doing HKT-xKUL-HKG and so on within one day, the transit time in KUL is just 1 hour. Any delay, and the whole run's in jeopardy. And to add that the flight from HKT would usually arrive at the main terminal, while the flight to HKG will depart from the satellite. If you don't need the SCs, you won't be doing it. If you need the SCs, it's too much risk. So while it works in theory, it doesn't seem very practical. I guess you could consider doing an overnight in HKG to make this work, but looking at the hotel prices in HKG, you would regret doing the run. I suppose we're back to the drawing board on this one.

There's a really nice one found over on FT's BA's TP Run thread, that earns 520SC for just under $US1.1k.

Cheers, haven't been on there for a while will check it out :)

If you want I can even tell you what the trip is like when I do it in January. Two years in the making and I'm finally on my SC run for plat!

True but the itinerary can br ticketed on the same ticket number. Would it not then be up to the airline to accommodate any mishaps? And in the (un)fortunate case of a missed connection the the first hkg flight I assume you would be re-routed to bkk directly? And still able to submit a claim for original routing credit?

I'm not sure what options they would take, although the next MH flight to HKG after MH72 is at 4pm. They have codeshares with CX so you can get to HKG sooner, however, you still wouldn't make the originally booked flight out of HKG so it's a bit of a moot point - unless they're willing to fly you KUL-HKG-KUL entirely on CX (unlikely). In this case, you would have to choose between an overnight in HKG (expensive), or KUL (try the transit hotel airside - good luck with last min vacancies). I guess you can also try the KUL F lounge slumber room, assuming there is availability, and you have access to it.

If they re-route you directly to BKK, I'm not sure if you can claim ORC with a partner airline. But if you say you have some important documents to drop off in HKG, I guess they'll have to fly you to HKG one way or another.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview!

Thanks. I am about to lose WP under the new rules. So planning for early 2015 trip to NYC and was thinking about a US run so must think in First Class to get the max SC?
