DJ Amex v Platinum Edge

A lot of hype about the Platinum Edge because its 3 MR at supermarkets and 2 MR at petrol stations.

DJ Amex, on the other hand, is 3 MR at both supermarkets AND petrol stations. Also the benefit of 2 MR at David Jones and some deferred payment at 0% benefits when spending on certain things at DJs.

If looking to amp up Supermarket/Petrol earn, wouldn't the DJ Amex be the better option?

My understanding is that DJ's MR points are worth less than normal MR points (they are not the same program).

But there's a gotcha. A David Jones MR point doesn't transfer 1:1 to airlines like ordinary Amex points. It transfers at 1:0.5.

The only redemption where it is equal to an Edge is with SPG transfers where it is the same 1:0.5 (offering good value IMO)

Amex do not make this at all clear in the websites/literature etc. I usually rate Amex as a great company to deal with -on this it really lets itself down

On the basis above I wouldn't recommend the DJ card unless you spend a lot in DJs itself (and you could mount a case for using an Edge to buy giftcards at WW to spend at DJs)

If you are a QF collector the DJ Qantas card could work (especially if you shop through the Qantas Mall)

This is exactly what I use it for. Very lucrative it is too

Thanks for the explanation. So not all MR points are equal. Very confusing!
