Well technically they do... The run engine 2 in what's called Hotel mode, when the prop doesn't turn however the engine is still running.

DJ have ground air on so they don't need to run an engine, which of course is not an APU, hence the question about whose aircraft, there are a few ATRs down under.

Standard SID out of CNS is out over water, plus tracking is down the coast...

LOL, you dont need to carry a life raft because you will be departing over water as part of a SID, only when you will be over water where land is 30 mins at cruise away or 100 miles in most cases. I suspect the OP was on a Heavylift bird to PNG.

Even I thought that would be a bit of a iffy me, however I have the H mode confirmed, XR SOP is start E2 @ -5 into hotel mode.

What ATR where you on, the 72's that DJ/Skywest use do not have an APU.

ATR 42 ,with Airlines PNG to LNV (Londolovit-Lihir Island).

Funny how recollections are. I did an ATR 72-500 on a LCC out of SIN earlier this year ,but sat down the back on the advice (and booking) of my travel companion (client) who had done these flights so many times), I did not really notice that this ATR 42 was a smaller aircraft at the time.

Apologies for delayed response, just noticed the thread in my profile
