DJ fares

I was aware such existed ... Of course back then only a large fare difference would see me fly VA .. but I had anytime access to the QF JL ...

What a difference 7 years makes, I do miss the DJ of old compared to today's VA (and the sale fares). Could take a lot more domestic leisure trips without having to suffer JQ.

Even better was over the GFC in 07/08 - remember sub-$100 fares to NZ

Living in Mackay during some of those sale periods was cough as we could only get good prices to BNE...

Friday and Sunday Monday always not available

Picked up a whole heap of those $1 SYD-CBR fares, brings back good memories of the Embraer 170!

$777 to LAX was another good one.

If the uptake was so good with this model (the old DJ), could it work again for a new (third) entrant to the AU domestic market?

Dynamics are a bit different now. DJ (except in first few years) used to sit in the space between a genuine LCC and full service - thus it could have such sales, take a lot of leisure travellers and still snag some business traffic (particularly small businesses). Now, if anything, Jetstar occupies that role in the market place, whilst Tiger takes the bottom.

Difficult to see a third competitor coming into the market without being screwed by the might of QF/JQ and VA/TT - unless VA went out of business first.

With HH fares ~$149 PER-East Coast ow at the moment, it looks like we have never had it better as the same flights were $169-$179 ow back in 2010 (excluding 2 for 1 deals).

Things have changed a lot over the past seven years. I only had one DJ flight under my belt prior to mid 2013....

I miss the airfares of 2010.

On sale Qantas SYD-BNE was $65 one-way and from memory VA SYD-BNE was $55 and SYD-OOL was $49 or was it $39?
