I have 4 WP domestic/pacific business class upgrades, and was thinking of using them to fly BNE -> PER return with my wife in April next year.

But they need to be upgraded from Freedom (flexi) tickets. These are around twice the price of Elevate, and would end up costing us around $2400 (vs $1200 for elevate).

Do they ever go on sale? I'd be happy to pay for tickets, but an extra $1200 for a Y seat, just so I can upgrade to J seems a bit steep.

Or should I just book it on points, which would work out to be around 140K points.

[EDIT] - probably won't require the SC earn to maintain WP, so using it as a status run doesn't come into play.

I don't think so.

It's interesting to sometimes see Elevate fares $20 less than Freedom. I wonder at what point do they just hang out the "sold out" sign on them (Elevate).

Don't think I've ever seen a Flexi go on sale, they're more targeted at businesses that will be buying them regardless (usually at discounted rates). Best option is to use a promo code.
