Do I have to pay a points penalty if I cancel my award flights after Qantas made changes to it?

Qantas has changed my flight times for a scheduled international flight in 2020. They've indicated that I need to call them to confirm all of the changes that they have made.

I was considering cancelling the booking as I'm not happy with the change(s) made.

If I do cancel the booking for this reason will I still have to pay the points penalty normally associated with cancelling award bookings or would they waive the penalty in this instance?

If it was a cash booking you'd be entitled to a full refund so I don't see why a points booking should be any different.

Good that it’s sorted out.

If you get messed around by the call centre in these situations it’s useful to emphasise the words “involuntary reschedule”.

That usually gets them onto the right process. I assume they follow some sort of scripts.
