Do people ever get free upgrades as QFFF Gold?

Not on QF but on BA I did get a couple as a SG, never had one as a WP

2 on QF last year - one due to rain delays and an u/s aircraft. Apart from that nothing on QF out 131 potentially upgradeable flights over the past six years.

I've received a few op-up's as a PS, all int long haul, which was nice... Never received a dom op-up, and in someways I would be a little annoyed that the op-up gods smiled at me for a short haul and not a long haul (that's not to say I wouldn't happily accept it).

It seems to be pretty random, with no real logic behind it. (at least not from a pax POV)

how about this, anyone been oped up when not traveling alone (linked tickets)??

More often than not I'm travelling with my wife - pretty much all of my op-ups have been with her and she's been op-upped as well.

thats simply awesome, did you ask or you got beeped/

J to F on CX last weekend but was outside the system, boarding pass still for J (ISM moved me after boarding). :)

Think my feedback card on the previous flight (turnaround) must have helped her hit her KPI...

For my op-up's I was told on check-in, they asked if I minded (as if ) and then proceeded to hand me a boarding pass for the better seat. I've never asked for an op-up (knowing what the answer is most likely going to be anyway) the closest I have come is asking about an on departure points upgrade (again it's pretty rare I'd ask)

As a SG the only op-up I got was on SFO-SYD or SYD-SFO back in the days of the cabin re-definition (F for J, J for Y+ etc).

As WP, i've had one upgrade (on a 734 from row 4 to 3, big one; not!) on ADL-MEL, one on LAX-LAS on AA (on Thanksgiving) and that's about it. I've had an upgrade to J on PER-SYD when I was PS too.

I have yet to have any amazing upgrades for free (I did go from whY to F once, but that was after burning points to upgrade to J, and having a situation on board with a couple of which half was upgraded to F at the gate and they wanted to sit together so I was substituted to F).

Simon Hickey, CEO of QFF said at lunch last year 'we use opups as a 'surprise and delight' for our most frequent flyers' and then said 'if you're platinum and haven't had an upgrade in the past 12 months, let me know and we'll make sure you do'. We all emailed him. None of us got one.

When it comes to QFF, you really do have a case of expecting 100% to fly in the cabin you're ticketed in.

I'll bet he wasn't expecting that response, did you email him on your phones during the lunch :D

Should you email him again, now he's head of International :D ;)

My list of Op-ups is as follows (over about 8 years):

- Numerous Y-J op-ups on BA european flights (probably 15+ over a period of 5 years) all with my significant other as a QF Plat or Gold - all on weekend flights (i.e. Friday through sunday) on leisure trips in Europe (I tended to fly J anyway for business).
- WT+ to J 3 times on BA on LHR-JFK as a QF Plat (alone)
- WT+ to J once on BA IAD-LHR as a QF Gold (alone)
- WT to J once on BA SFO-LHR as a QF Gold (alone)
- Y to PE once on QF SIN-LHR as a QF Plat (with my wife)
- PE to J once on QF SIN-LHR as a QF Plat (with my wife)
- Y to J twice on QF from BNE-SYD as a QF Plat (with my wife) - both times around the Christmas holidays
- Y to J once on QF from CNS-Syd as a QF Plat (with my wife) - June long weekend a few years ago

I think that's it. Every time I've been given a new boarding pass at checkin - except for a few of the BA intra-europes where I checked in online and were given a new BP at the gate.

Sounds like you've done well, and your wife too!

Nothing like over promise and under deliver.

Sums up QF really.

Seems like CX upgrades are more common...

They do seem to take the OW Status quite seriousl - I was rushing for a connection in TPE and the agent insisted on me waiting while he handwrote "QFQFSAPPHIRE" in big letters on my BP!
