it seems to be impossible to get any award seats on all A380 operated routes in F..is this because QF does not allow it to happen? has anyone had any luck in the past?

They are released. Often disappear quickly though when first released, additional seats may turn up 1-2 weeks before the flight.

As a WP, you can call Qantas and ask if they can release a seat for you, however this is not a defined benefit of the WP tier. Has yielded success for some in the past.

I have an FASA LAX-SYD on the A380 in April 2012. I did have to book it in May 2011 and as has been noted, they go very very quickly.

Perseverance is the key.

I managed to get a FASA on QF10 in October 2011, and have a FASA on QF9 SIN-LHR in August this year. I do book up to 11 months out though.

I have a F Classic award MEL-LAX on Dec 18 this year. That was the only day in Dec available and it only showed as a Classic award and not as a FASA.

I'm now waiting for a seat to be released in January for the flight home - but as that is >330 days there are no seats released (even for sale). I've got alerts set up in EF to keep an eye out, but I'll also be checking every couple of days once I get to <330 days out.

I saw two award F seats MEL-LAX available for the best part of a week. This is for April an was towards the end of last year.

No real issues, a quick look at November shows at least one FASA each week MEL LAX for 180k

In this case it is hard work and persistence! You need more than a few clicks of the mouse to find it.

View it like a hunt............. They are there grazing in thick growth!

Given that there are crack problems on the 388s I would expect demand for these planes should drop a little giving some of us more chances of snaring that F and J seat ;)

Look out for what V1213 and I refer to as 'First rorts'. They are floating around the system, but they only seem to be bookable if you search for 1 pax - not 2 or more. And it only works on the homeward leg, eg. HKG-SYD, not SYD-HKG.
Search for a JASA, select a multi-leg option with an A380 on it. It will always have 'Hurry!' flashing in yellow as there seems to only be one bookable seat. In some cases when you go to the next screen, it will come up with a warning which says something like:

  • [*=1]The requested cabin class is full or not available in at least one of the options listed below. (5003

Then it tells you your A380 leg is in First. Doesn't seem to cost any extra points. I booked one for March, HKG-SYD-PER. Just paid the minimum points (60,000) and some cash.. can't remember how much. Have tried to replicate now and can only seem to make it work with 747s, unfortunately. I don't know if they have fixed the problem, or us AFFers have booked all the seats! I booked mine about 4 months out.
Also works/worked for LHR-SIN..

I recently booked 2 x F LHR/SIN for early march using points but I have to say it was pain. I was checking their website multiple times per day for several weeks before the seats became available. I find QF redemptions in J or F difficult to find between OZ and LA, LHR - SIN - BNE/SYD. It's almost impossible to plan a trip well in advance. I'm wanting to go to LA in Sep and whilst I'm a little flexible with my dates, there is absolutely nothing available for the whole month. Yes I appreciate the Roo wants to maximize time to fill premium seats but why can other airlines release ample redemption seats in advance. Up ya QF!!

Booked a 380 F classic reward seat (as a FASA) last week for SIN-LHR in April 12. Had been monitoring availability on and off for the last few months but finally snagged it.

I actually find getting a JASA on the 380 harder than getting a FASA.

Really? I wouldn't expect it to make any difference.

Edit: I should have paid more attention to the smiley.

I booked my FASA HKG-SYD about 4 months out. It was a challenge to find a "cheap" one (i.e. 90K points + $200 vs 1.1 million points!!), but they are out there.

Thats good to hear its just when I search it's months and months no availability

Guess have to search harder
