Do Virgin Golds get Etihad lounge access? Extra bag piece? Better seats?

This is like Russian Roulette (pardon the pun!)

Very much like it. :)

He would love to bring home an extra bag of goodies and prezzies and Russian stuff if it is approved. Etihad charge 540 Euro for that, (!) and of course, all impulse stuff and can't easily be done at short notice.

Time will tell.

I recently applied for a status match with Virgin and was also told it would take three to five business days for a response. They wanted a screenshot/ photo of my Qantas card and when asking to expedite things, the call centre told me to call again and advise the reference number my email had generated and they would take care of it. Only three minutes on hold and the status match came through the next day, so maybe this way of prioritising things works for your friend as well. Good luck!

Good to hear. '3-5 days' is likely boilerplate, and hopefully such a thing referred by Plat line can be a next day tick. :)

Approved within the one business day, very useful and great timing for my Y flight on SQ the next day. Tomorrow's J flights JNB-DOH-SIN will lock in lifetime gold on QF and I didn't want to start from scratch with VA.

Very helpful to know! What was the process with Virgin to do the status match?

Platinum email section replied 2 weeks ago saying nothing was possible, and after my response, have finally looked and seen the ungifted Gold memberships I earned in the past, and never used, and have finally agreed to pass on my request and endorsed it, 'to relevant team members to look at' and advises ''I'll have a reply in 3-5 Business days'' (He flies out in 3 days.)

Update.

Heard zip, so phoned Virgin Friday afternoon, as he was flying Sunday. Got patched through to Philippines 'help' desk. Guy there reads the file, says the Gold was not approved, and tells me if it was his call, he'd have granted it. Asked to speak to a supervisor - also Filipina.

Asked if she could OK it. NADA. Asked if she could escalate it please, as he was flying in a day or two. NADA.

He flew Moscow-Abu-Dhabi-Sydney on Sunday, and no lounge access anywhere, and no extra free bag allowance, that cost him near $A1000 to check thru.

Same Filipina agent phones me today with the 'Good News' the Gold Membership had now been approved! Durrrhhh.

Thanked her, and said it was VERY disappointing she had simply not agreed Friday, when it really would have been of huge value. She mumbled that someone might have phoned me, but got no answer. Nope. And anyway, checked his status online Saturday, and it was still Red. So they did nothing Friday.

Said she was going to process it today, good for a year from now. Asked if she might please START membership date from Friday or Sat so at least he got the substantial extra Gold points for 2 long hauls, and she said NADA.

All like some strange movie plot!
