I prefer not to, but if no safety deposit in room, I will consider it.
In Moscow a while back I was glad I had it, as a gruff police or other officer stopped me in a metro station, picking me out from a crowd (obviously I looked 'different') and said one word: PASSPORT! Needless to say, no smile.
I retrieved it, and he looked for the 'extra' travel agency issued while in Russia documenttaion (an irrittaion to obtain, as had to occur when in the country). If I hadn't obtained that slip of paper, I believe I'd have been fined US$200 minimum and worse, been taken to his office at the metro station and subjected to a wait.
