Do you live near an airport?

This is sad for me to admit, but we bought our current house because of the location to the airport. No aircraft noise here which is great seeing we're so close.

15 min drive to the airport (5 mins to the start of Airport Drive), short walk to train station on the Airtrain line, close to the under construction Airport Link tunnel.

I'm around 30-40 km from MEL, depending on which route you take. Cabbing it is about $65 each way; I try to avoid Melbourne cabbies where possible, so I usually take the tram to the city and the Skybus to the airport.

It usually takes me around an hour from walking off the plane to walking in my front door.

Do I live near an airport?

Yes - Moorabbin ~14Km and 20 minutes

I live 60km by most direct road (80 minutes) from MEL and 72 by freeway/toll road (60 minutes).

It's about 43km as the crow flies.

The VTD Taxi fare estimator gives a figure of $149 for a one-way trip home from MEL using the freeway/toll roads.

Until recently I was living in Mascot approx 1 km from the dom airport.

Now based at Rosebery so still close ~5 minute drive.

However moving soon to the Northern Beaches so more like 35-40 minutes to the Dom airport.

I did enjoy living close, WP anytime access to the QP is great for quiet Sunday afternoon drinks.

112km or 1h20m to MEL, 52km or 55m to AVV. Though from my office I can watch AVV all day across corio bay.

Now that’s making good use of your status. I’d imagine the lounge staff never know if you’re flying or just drinking :p

31.6km for me from home to the airport (via Toll Road), 43.6km (via Westgate) and around 27.5km for the direct route (but that's directly through the MEL CBD).

Taxi fare works out to be around $60-70 depending on time of day and to/from path (plus tolls and airport pickup fees).

If under a week it's cheaper to park. Skybus return plus tram is the other option for me too, but isn't madly convenient if large amounts of luggage are required.

I actually forgot to actually answer the question :!:

We live about 6km from East sale military airfield and about the same from West Sale civilian airfield. We get lots of free displays from the Roulettes. :D ;)

And how much is the taxi fare from MEL? :p

I could estimate.......

It costs approximately $220 to catch a taxi from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. That is less than 100 km.

My wager is that Sale to Tulla would cost around $600-$700 and that is if the cabbie is even prepared to take you that distance.

EDIT: saw straitman beat me by 1 minute - gee, that's not as much as I thought. Extrapolation = fail......

I live about 10kms from Brisbane Airport; it takes about 15 minutes. With the opening of the gateway bridge extensions the travel time is reduced by a few minutes and about $5.00 in taxi fares from $35.00 to under $30.00.

I could catch the train but that would take just over an hour.

I will most likely be taking the train in 16 days when I next come back from overseas. I have better uses for $20.00 than give to some taxi driver, especially as I arrive back in the middle of the day(Sunday) so no need to rush back to work.

Hi sam,

They do figure it out I am sure, but I did not care as I was only using the rules of the club.

I don't live near an airport, but my office is close to PER.

Having an off preference for red eye flying when heading over east, I'll normally pack the morning of, take my bag to work and leave from the office. Depending on the weather, a 10min taxi ride down the Gt Eastern Highway for ~AUD20, or can also take a nice 55min walk to domestic.

Walking to domestic isn't too bad, as you can pretty much get a solid path all the way in if you go via the back. I won't walk to international, too much of a PITA and there's zero pathway up Horrie Miller Dr and too many loons drive that stretch of tarmac sometimes.

Just under 10 minutes and $18-20 by taxi. I did it in 8.5 minutes today.

I don't think I'm under a flight path, if I am I've certainly never noticed it

As far as flight paths go, I’m sure a few planes fly over head, but the loudest I’ve noticed several times in the afternoon and looks to be a 747 with a white belly. Heading North. Not sure which carrier, but always seems lower, bigger and noisier!

I used to live (and partner still does) about 20mins from MEL, often get aircraft overhead (but not noisy) when conditions dictate. Is about $32-35 in taxi via Essendon or $45 via Citylink (which saves a whole 2-3mins). Public transport a PITA, so usually get a lift. Now I'm similar distance from SIN and taxi costs about $11 AUD to airport, more coming home, and the train also convenient (particularly without luggage when going out to greet visitors). No aircraft noise here, other than odd airforce exercises, but I guess that's true for nearly all of Singapore, most aircraft noise from Changi would affect those in Indonesia and Malaysia.
