I'm the same now.
I have a massive photo collection that I never look at due to spending many past holidays with my eye behind a lens.
These days I just enjoy the moment. I might take a few quick snaps with my phone, but that's really about it.
We view via apple TV on the big screen TV or switch them over to shuffle mode on the TV while the music is pumping thru the BOSE system......good way to see a massive meshing of years of holiday and family snaps!
Always take a camera but if you want to take photos of food (which I do) the iphone is a little more subtle
With no disrespect, I can't work out why people take photos of food?
Overseas - yes.
Domestic - not so much.
I want to get a Canon P & S with wifi. Any recommendations?
I'd be going with the Powershot S120 (Canon PowerShot S120: Digital Photography Review) or the G16 (Canon PowerShot G16: Digital Photography Review) if you want more manual control. The G16 is the update to the G15 which I bought a couple of months back and have taken to the US and Singapore, and I've been really happy with the results (the G16 adds Wifi and an updated processor). I contemplated the s120 for the more "pocketable" size, but went with the G15 because I prefer to have more dials and buttons to change settings quickly, rather than having to dig through menus.
Have Canon 5d iii and an iPhone... iPhone great for quick snaps, especially those posted to social media. SLR especially good for fast action and low light situations.
Interesting how new age camera "lore" has evolved.
In my world it's all about the glass..and the pixels are not so important.
I do see the usefulness of my iphone for opportunistic happy snaps , but the basics of photography will never be met by an iphone because the laws of physics prevent it.

Leaning towards the G16. Now to find one for a good price!
Keep an eye out for 15% off cameras at JB, it seems to come around pretty regularly. I bought my G15 there and combined with the TRS refund it was a decent saving.
JB is my electronics store of choice. I don't like my chances of a pre Xmas camera sale but will keep my eyes open. I fly out New Years Day but want to try it out first, especially the wifi function.
Try these guys: http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod10272.htm.
$420 after a $50 cash back, vs $499 at JB post-cash back. Cash back deals are a pain, but it's helpful in this case because you'll be able to claim the GST back on the $470 purchase price, making the overall cost about $377 if my calcs are any good. Win!
